Excuse me if im not as perfect as you seem to be . Im a senior who is trying to type with a neck brace. So excuse me. Seems your just wanting to fuss. I agree just because the puppy doesnt cost a fortune does not make the breeder bad. I think thats pretty clear. I have two dogs one a yorky which cost me three hundred dollars. The breeder isnt out to make tons of money by charging a fortune. I understand those who have great parents. Its like horses if you have a winning horse you will pay more. For the babies. Breeders have the right to charge what they feel is right for them. And there are mills but to accuse everyone who dont line up with your thinking as a bad breeder is a far stretch. This breeder shows her dogs she is responsible. Boo has had all his shots she had dna done on him to make sure of a healthy dog. She also had a vet check and has garenteed his health. But she has a kind heart she knew im a senior who does take care of her dogs. I also have a contract.I have to have him neutered. And cannot give or sell him to anyone. Must go back to her. The papilon i have was a family or backyard breeder. Which i got papers i just have to register her. I had to take her to the vet and had her checked and all shots. I also paid 300 for her. But i was not as informed as i am now about breeders. This family is not puppy mill but are not doing right breeding there mates every time and are jeprodizing puppys and parents health. They are uninformed. I take offence that it is all about money. If you dont pay a fortune for a dog then your incompetent in choosing a good breeder. Or you will be a lousy parent who wont care for them if they get sick. Because you paid less than 3000 for a pup. Yes i am upset. I love my dogs and will do what is needed to care for them. Yes i realize there are bad breeders but please give some of us credit. | |

The reason why I felt the need to post was because in your original post, you said that the breeder that you got your pup from (was it Boo or was it the papillon? You did not make that very clear) was good, yet you later said that that breeder bred her females and males every single chance that she got. You can't do a DNA test to find out if a dog is healthy or not. That should be the vet's doing, at a wellness checkup. She should KNOW that the dog is healthy based on the lines and how she takes care of him. I think the real misunderstanding here is because in your original post, you were talking about two different breeders at the same time..the one where you got Boo from, and the one where you got your papillon from. Only by reading your second post (the latest post) can one determine which breeder you were talking about. In your original post, it seemed like you were saying that the breeder that you got Boo from (whom you say is reputable) also bred her females every heat cycle. Also: just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's reputable. Puppy mills come in all shapes and sizes. They can charge $100, $500, $800, $1000, $1500, $3000. The average price for a reputable breeder is $1000-$1200. Why? Reputable breeders breed to BETTER THE BREED, not just for money. That's why they show dogs or do agility/conforment classes. It costs a lot of money to produce a litter, THAT'S why litters are so expensive. Money to pay for the parents, the puppy pads, vet costs, training costs, possible surgery/C-section costs for the mother, food, water, X-pens, crates, beds, keeping up with hundreds of emails a day, not to mention all the work that is put into it.

| ![]() Reputable breeders don't charge thousands of dollars just to make a "quick buck". They do it to better the breed. It costs thousands of dollars per litter, and most of the time, these breeders barely even break even. So many costs, so many factors are essential to producing healthy, quality puppies. Besides, no reputable breeder I know would charge over $3000 for a puppy. That's wayyy too expensive & they may be milking the "designer breed" or "teacup" factor. The only time it would be over $1500 is if it is a quality show puppy, and you would need full AKC registration for that. The average pet puppy price is $1000-$1200, sometimes in the $1250-$1500 range. The reason why breeders that sell for such cheap prices, like $300, is so worrisome, is because if they really WERE selling quality pet puppies, they would end up losing THOUSANDS of dollars per puppy and would quickly be put into debt, and even bankruptcy. I'm not saying that this is the case with ALL cheaper puppies, like your pup and the OP found a great breeder within the $600 range, but this is a very common theme--and that's why so many of us are wary and suspicious.

| ![]() That's alright, it was just a mutual misunderstanding.

| ![]() But we don't know that and maybe there not. We don't know your breeder. You might not also know all the red flags that make a breeder bad.
