Reputable breeders don't charge thousands of dollars just to make a "quick buck". They do it to better the breed. It costs thousands of dollars per litter, and most of the time, these breeders barely even break even. So many costs, so many factors are essential to producing healthy, quality puppies.
Besides, no reputable breeder I know would charge over $3000 for a puppy. That's wayyy too expensive & they may be milking the "designer breed" or "teacup" factor. The only time it would be over $1500 is if it is a quality show puppy, and you would need full AKC registration for that. The average pet puppy price is $1000-$1200, sometimes in the $1250-$1500 range.
The reason why breeders that sell for such cheap prices, like $300, is so worrisome, is because if they really WERE selling quality pet puppies, they would end up losing THOUSANDS of dollars per puppy and would quickly be put into debt, and even bankruptcy. I'm not saying that this is the case with ALL cheaper puppies, like your pup and the OP found a great breeder within the $600 range, but this is a very common theme--and that's why so many of us are wary and suspicious.
