No, I didn't take it as negative! I really wished that I didn't even HAVE to buy it and that the positive reinforcement way worked because I would rather train her that way. But she is a Yorkie and the longer I have her, the more I realize that Yorkies seem to be just different from other dogs. Sometimes, I swear she is human!!

I am going out today, I will go to Bed, bath & beyond to see if my store carries this. Cody is like your Beanie when he sees other dogs, we are now in obedience training, I think Cody thinks this is the place where he can act out his aggresion, and not the place he is being trained to stop the lunging. I will see if this works on him, Cody's behavior is a safety issue for him, like you say, what if his behavior around larger dogs, puts that dog into attack mode and comes after little boy. My Cody could be killed, reason we are in this training session. I hope this will work for my boy. Thanks for being so considerate and posting your canine stun gun.

Don't get Bark Off. It doesn't work. BB&B carries Bark Off. I ordered the one made by First Alert. They are a good company. Can't wait to get it and test it out.

Oh good, so glad I didn't come off the wrong way .

Lol, we swear our yorkies might be human too! And yup, I think yorkies are different than other breeds - just more alert, energetic, quirky, strong minded, stubborn...little turds half the time ...but such CUTE LITTLE TURDS, we can't resist.

YES, that is what made me the most upset about Beanie's behavior. She did not give a crap how big or vicious the dog was, she would do her Tasmanian Devil thing. And it was not aggression in the form that she wanted to attack the dog, she just wanted to be near a dog and play. But she just would get so excited that it turned into her appearing to be "aggressive".

Yes, there were times that she actually was "protecting" me, like the time we were walking around a pond in a different town and a jogger with a HUGE pitbull came running towards us. All my little 6 lb. dog saw was a dog racing towards me and she went effing NUTS, I mean nuts. Thank God, the jogger actually had control of his dog because the freaking pit bull lunged at her with his mouth open. I thought I was going to die, but as I said, the guy was strong enough to pull his dog away from my dog's head.

But MY dog incited the aggression in the pit bull and it just reacted to her, protecting it's owner. This happened when she was just starting to go crazy at dogs. It got worse and worse from there.

I walked her last night after work and there were tons of trick or treaters, kids AND grown ups in costumes walking all over my area. Of course, Beanie being a Yorkie and curious about EVERYTHING, got totally wound up about all this going on. A guy was walking 2 greyhounds and she started to do her "thing" again. Thank God, I had taken the doggie stun gun with me, anticipating her anxiety level would go up. Anyway, I used it and she immediately stopped. I did feel bad though because we were really close to the 2 dogs. I didn't see them coming as we were turning a corner otherwise I would have walked across the street far enough away from them so that it wouldn't affect then when I used it. But I had no choice because they were right on top of us and she started to go nuts. I decided that it was more important to stop HER than worry about the other 2 dogs.

Anyway, I hope it works for you!

Well my BB&B does not carry it, so I'll have to order it on line. My trainer says it's aggression,I don't see his face I'm at the other end of the leash. I truly believe he wants to be friends, just doesn't know how to approach in a friendly manner. Cody is adopted, it will be 1 year in a few weeks that he is my lil boy. It's obvious he was never socialized with other dogs. I truly do not think he wants to fight, my trainer disagrees, she sees his face. I will also ask her about using this method, but still going to get it.

O.K., I know EXACTLY what you mean. I felt the same way about Beanie. I didn't see it as real aggression because when she was in the car in her bucket and barking like a nut at dogs, it would end with whimpering like she was sad she couldn't be with the dogs. Same thing when we walked. And yes, she didn't know how to approach in a friendly manner. And no, she wasn't rescued, I got her from a breeder and she was always around dogs there (and cats too!). When I got her, I think I over protected her from dogs and maybe that started it. She didn't start her crap until she was, umm probably 2 1/2. And it didn't become a problem until she was like 3. She was born in July 2011 so that was quite a bit of time that she "ramped" up to what she became.

There were factors that I think made her worse, being attacked by the husky, and just other dogs not being friendly to her when she WAS friendly. I think she just got sick of being, well basically pushed around, and decided to become doggie proactive. ahahahahahha

Anyway, I agree with you and not with your trainer. But what do I know, except I DO know my dog and I don't really know how you can tell by their face. I mean, Beanie's eyeballs looked like they were going to fall out, but at the end of it, she was whimpering and sad that the dog she was barking at didn't want to "greet" her.

I SO hope this works for you because I know what you are going through!!

I am by no means an expert on this, but I would tend to agree after this attack she may have a fear of dogs and just wants to hide it by acting all big and bad. My past girl was raised with another female 6 years older then her. My older one was fearless, the younger one Matese was a sweetheart, very timid, on 2 occasions both girls were approached once by a huge Husky, the 2nd time by a huge Belgium Shepard, both times Matese the youngest one was traumatized, screaming out of fear. What this did to her was to cause fear in walking, she and myself were always looking over our shoulder to make sure no dog was coming after us. These 2 dogs were not acting aggressive, they took us by surprise and scared my dog forever. However it had no affect on my older girl, she wanted to fight them lol. I don't know how Cody would react if something like that happened to him.I truly think he's a little chicken s!!t. I pray I never find out. Funny how some dogs react differentially to the same situations.

I know!! I started doing the same thing, looking over my shoulder and all around for other dogs. Of course, our own dogs pick up on OUR behavior and it affects THEM.

I'll tell you what though, Beanie doesn't back down. She doesn't give a crap how big the dog is, she will hold her own barking her head off at the dog. Of course, she IS in a car or the dog IS behind a fence. But she will go right up that that fence and bark at the big dog. Yes, I agree that is her way of acting out.

Now that she has calmed back down to the way she used to be, I will allow her to greet other dogs. I always ask the person if their dog is friendly. Some people have told me NO, don't come near us!! Can you imagine that? Like, hey there, I have a dog that will bite you or your dog's head off if you even come near us. Nice.

And let me tell you, I do not trust Huskies. They are such beautiful dogs, but I have heard so many stories about them attacking small dogs and these idiot owners just let them off leash. It really p!!sses me off when people do that.

Anyway, if the Bark Genie doesn't work for you, you can send it back for a refund.

I just ordered a similar item. I won't take it on walks, Ali loves other dogs. I will just use it at home when she won't StOP. Nothing has worked so far! She also barks nonstop at our grand baby, that has to stop. Squirt bootle, rewards air spray nothing works

What use to be the baby of the pack was fearless, scared of nothing, she was the smallest of the pack, but the leader, even tho I would often tell her I WAS THE PACK LEADER. She would also stand her place and not back down, at this time I lived in NY, Da Bronx, all residential area, dogs in gated driveway, Dobermans, 3 St. Barnard's, beagel, long haied Doxie, all buddies of my 3 dog pack. If a strange dog was on the block it was the little that would start, I would have to pick up her up, concerned her barking would seem like a challenge to the other dog, with these 3 I never had a stray dog approach us, whoops, correction, there were a few on my camping trips, nothing major, owner always got their dog before it got to us. When my 2 oldest went to rainbow bridge, I had to get the baby, now 6 y/o a new sister, matese, she was a very passive girl, and Schnae once the baby was now the momma and was totally in love with the new kid. On a camping trip I was walking just Matese the passive one when the huge Husky approached us, when ever I was camping and would walk the dogs I was always on the look out for dogs off leash. This time when I walked just the one dog there was a group of campers playing Frisbee, they had the Husky, I couldn't see if the dog was leashed, the next thing I know my dog was SCREAMING, I looked down to see what the h!!l was wrong with her, there she was on her back in the submissive position with the Husky over her, I grabbed my screaming traumatized baby, screaming for someone to get the Husky, the owner came over, said his dog was friendly, my dog is still screaming, I screamed at him, there is a reason why this campground has a leash law, I said look at my dog, she is traumatized. ppl don't realize what affect their dog will have on other dogs. Now if I had, had my tough lil Schnae on that walk god only knows what the out come would have been. Schnae was kinda friendly but when taken by surprise she could have went after that Husky. It was after that insistent both Matese and myself would look over our shoulder, sure our dogs feed off us, but I was not going to be taken off guard again. That surprise of the Husky cause a forever fear in my sweet lil girl. The 2nd insistent happend a week after moving towhere Iam now living, the Belgium Shepard. I never walked my dogs again here after that. Now I have Cody, I do walk him sometimes, and yes I still look over my shoulder, and look into the woods to make sure no dog is around, Cody is so busy sniffing I don't really think he senses what I am doing, but it is necessary. That stun gun would be good for the walks, it would act as a 2 for 1 on both dogs, I could leave the wasp spray at home.

Oh wow, you really lived in THE CITY. I live in Chelsea, MA and that is quite city as well, but nothing like the Bronx.

I totally agree with you that these things traumatize our dogs and they don't really get over it. I am glad you yelled at that idiot owner of the Husky. Some people are afraid to stand up for their dogs. Not me, nor you! I yell at people too about their stupid off leash or in the yard (with rickety old fences) dogs. There is a house near me with 2 HORRIBLE dogs in a "fenced" in yard that is overgrown with weeds and trash. They charge the fence whenever anyone walks by, never mind me with Beanie. One day I was walking by and the guy was out there with the dogs and they charged the fence to the point it was bending. I freakin screamed at him like a nut. The funny thing is this house is right next to a baseball park and a game was going on and here I am yelling at this a-hole about his a-hole dogs and the kids playing the game were like what is going on over there? I was a tad embarrassed but too bad. I KNOW people have complained to the city about this guy with the dogs, but nothing seems to be done.

Where did you come up with your dog's names? They are very different. I know that Cody is a name I have heard of, but not the other 2. And Beanie sniffs everything too. OH MY GOD, it is like what are you a bloodhound?? We will be trotting along and all of a sudden she will just dart over to something pulling me along till I almost fall on my face. She is SO quick.

Wasp spray, I never thought about that! My stepmother bought me this spray stuff, but it is just some kind of potent orange spray thing. It is supposed to be to deter an attacking dog, but I don't think it would do too much.

And what the heck did you do with your dogs in bad weather (like today) when you couldn't go out and exercise them? Beanie drives me crazy because she wants to constantly play with her ball, i.e. I throw it all around the house and she runs after it. I can only do that so much!! I end up putting her in her little bucket in the car and I just drive around everywhere. Thank God she loves being in the car and looking out the window! She is really funny though when she wants her way, she basically throws a hissey fit and makes all these noises and gyrations, jumping around and batting me with her paws and head butting me. I probably shouldn't laugh (I am sure it encourages the bad behavior), but I can't help it, she makes me crack up!

I have only one dog, I can't imagine having more than one of these little creatures!!

I ordered the First Alert Bark Genie from 1-800-PETMEDS a few months ago. They offered a money back guarantee so I thought I had nothing to lose. Our Harley is not a frequent barker but she gets really excited when our younger grandchildren come over. She's not barking to be aggressive, she just wants their attention. She has the run of our family room and kitchen. At times when we go on the other side of the gate which separates her area from her 'no access' area, she'll bark quite a bit. The Bark Genie has worked great for us. I would say "no bark" and point at her before I pushed the button. She immediately stopped barking after the button was pushed. Now that we've been using it for awhile, I can either just show her the device or just point and say "no bark" and her barking will cease. If she is super excited I still may need to use it. It's just a great feeling to know that if Harley gets on a barking jag, it will won't be long until she is under control. I have read the the Bark Genie does not work for every dog but it does work for our Harley. I would recommend it to anyone who is trying to get their dog's barking under control because of the money back guarantee.
