If a strange dog was on the block it was the little that would start, I would have to pick up her up, concerned her barking would seem like a challenge to the other dog, with these 3 I never had a stray dog approach us, whoops, correction, there were a few on my camping trips, nothing major, owner always got their dog before it got to us. When my 2 oldest went to rainbow bridge, I had to get the baby, now 6 y/o a new sister, matese, she was a very passive girl, and Schnae once the baby was now the momma and was totally in love with the new kid. On a camping trip I was walking just Matese the passive one when the huge Husky approached us, when ever I was camping and would walk the dogs I was always on the look out for dogs off leash. This time when I walked just the one dog there was a group of campers playing Frisbee, they had the Husky, I couldn't see if the dog was leashed, the next thing I know my dog was SCREAMING, I looked down to see what the h!!l was wrong with her, there she was on her back in the submissive position with the Husky over her, I grabbed my screaming traumatized baby, screaming for someone to get the Husky, the owner came over, said his dog was friendly, my dog is still screaming, I screamed at him, there is a reason why this campground has a leash law, I said look at my dog, she is traumatized. ppl don't realize what affect their dog will have on other dogs. Now if I had, had my tough lil Schnae on that walk god only knows what the out come would have been. Schnae was kinda friendly but when taken by surprise she could have went after that Husky. It was after that insistent both Matese and myself would look over our shoulder, sure our dogs feed off us, but I was not going to be taken off guard again. That surprise of the Husky cause a forever fear in my sweet lil girl. The 2nd insistent happend a week after moving towhere Iam now living, the Belgium Shepard. I never walked my dogs again here after that. Now I have Cody, I do walk him sometimes, and yes I still look over my shoulder, and look into the woods to make sure no dog is around, Cody is so busy sniffing I don't really think he senses what I am doing, but it is necessary. That stun gun would be good for the walks, it would act as a 2 for 1 on both dogs, I could leave the wasp spray at home. |
