Same thing when we walked. And yes, she didn't know how to approach in a friendly manner. And no, she wasn't rescued, I got her from a breeder and she was always around dogs there (and cats too!). When I got her, I think I over protected her from dogs and maybe that started it. She didn't start her crap until she was, umm probably 2 1/2. And it didn't become a problem until she was like 3. She was born in July 2011 so that was quite a bit of time that she "ramped" up to what she became.
There were factors that I think made her worse, being attacked by the husky, and just other dogs not being friendly to her when she WAS friendly. I think she just got sick of being, well basically pushed around, and decided to become doggie proactive. ahahahahahha
Anyway, I agree with you and not with your trainer. But what do I know, except I DO know my dog and I don't really know how you can tell by their face. I mean, Beanie's eyeballs looked like they were going to fall out, but at the end of it, she was whimpering and sad that the dog she was barking at didn't want to "greet" her.
I SO hope this works for you because I know what you are going through!! |
I am by no means an expert on this, but I would tend to agree after this attack she may have a fear of dogs and just wants to hide it by acting all big and bad. My past girl was raised with another female 6 years older then her. My older one was fearless, the younger one Matese was a sweetheart, very timid, on 2 occasions both girls were approached once by a huge Husky, the 2nd time by a huge Belgium Shepard, both times Matese the youngest one was traumatized, screaming out of fear. What this did to her was to cause fear in walking, she and myself were always looking over our shoulder to make sure no dog was coming after us. These 2 dogs were not acting aggressive, they took us by surprise and scared my dog forever. However it had no affect on my older girl, she wanted to fight them lol. I don't know how Cody would react if something like that happened to him.I truly think he's a little chicken s!!t. I pray I never find out. Funny how some dogs react differentially to the same situations.
