question about my new puppy

If the vet meant 1lb. 14 oz. then his remarks are goofy unless he thinks a dog that is 5-6lbs. is huge. (on the chart I looked at a 9week pup will end up around 5 lbs.)

If the vet meant 1.14 lbs. then he was just being sarcastic and your pup needs lots of attention to keep her healthy.

9 weeks is too young to get a Yorkie.

If you were sold a "teacup" that is on the path to weigh 5lbs or more, you got taken advantage of. (tiny/teacup is usually under 4lbs.)

If you were sold a 9 week old teeny tiny who only weighs 1.14lbs. you have your work cut out for you.

I read 1.14 to be one pound fourteen ounces or 30 ounces...so, I'm confused, too!

It all boils down to the guarantee the breeder gave you that you will actually get what you paid for or will be compensated if not...and welcome!!

youre right Kim it does add up tp 30 oz. that being said it's important information knowing her past pedigree (her/his grandparents and great grand parents) to truly gage her true adult size, even then it would be a guess.

her weight 1.14lbs converts to this:

1lb = 16 oz
14 oz added to the 16 is 30oz total weight.

What usually makes a yorkie appear larger or smaller is their body composition . . . short square body or long legs and long body.

While Cooper is 3.5#, he is longer legged but shorter bodied than Carter and looks smaller.

You can never tell! Weight isn't all that important . . . I hope you end up with the "look" that you like more than the perfect weight.

I cannot for the life of me understand this conversion. can you explain it to me. I am confused. I know I am missing something. I know a pound is 16 ounces. Right? RIGHT? LOL

That is the way I figured it so where is this 18. something coming from in the conversion?

I think you got the 18 from her there is no such thing as .24 ounces

Welcome and Congrats on your new addition. I got Cowboy at 9 1/2 weeks and he weighed 1lb 9oz. He only weighed 2 lbs 6oz at 7mo. I had him fixed and at 9mo he weighed 4 lbs. He is 11months old and he weighs approx 4 lbs. The breeder told me she thought he would weigh between 3-4lbs. The vet said he would be more like 6. So you just never know. But I would have loved him if he weighed 20 lbs. Personally, I think 5-6 lbs is a great size. They are just so tiny anyway. Good Luck.

Ok I was reading your guys answers and am NOT getting the math you guys are doing. 1.14 lbs translates to 18.3 ounces(approximately) to me. You guys are saying 16 ounces plus 14 ounces... where are you getting 14 ounces from???? It is 14 100ths of a pound.


SO... 1 lb = 16 ounces
.1 lb.= 1.6 ounces
.o4 = .7 ounces(approx)

I also think the vet was just being funny when he said huge. I think probably 4 lbs. but you will get a better idea by doubling weight at 12 weeks

I get it but do vets really weigh them like that? down to that small of a fraction?
I haven't ever witnessed that. we always get something like 2.6 or 3.0.

My Vet does. he has 2 scales. one by the desk for the normale dogs and cats, and a smaller scale that does fractions in the back exam rooms. It is made for small kittens and puppies

very interesting. my vet has two scales but the one for smaller animals just goes to the 10th of a pound.

She didn't say 1.14lbs. She just said 1.14. When my bet told me Ceeby weighed 1.10 he said it was 1lb and 10 ounces . the scale is digital and weighs in lbs and ounces.

NOPE!!

16 oz is a pound
so if your kid weighs 1 lb 14 oz

you take the 16 oz which equals 1 lb plus the 14oz and add them together

you get 30 oz no way around it!

I dont understand where youre getting the 1.6 or the approx .7 at ...its merely 1 lb 14 oz
