YT 500 Club Member | Izzy gets spayed tomorrow Okay so I take Izzy in tomorrow to get spayed and I've had a hysterectomy myself so I know how she's going to feel and I feel bad for her. Scott will be taking sumo Yorkie to work with him during the days so Izzy can rest in peace. They finally started to play with each other and it's like watching WWF Yorkie wrestling all day long. It's cute. And I'm just wondering if you guys think it would be okay after a few days to give her Benadryl just to keep her from being restless and keep her sleeping because you heal faster when you sleep. And also she follows me up and down the stairs constantly and I know she's probably going to think she still needs to do that, should I get a sling and put her in it so that she's with me without putting strain on her or is that going too far in the whole spoiled aspect of things? Oh and the vet checked her and said she actually lost all of her baby teeth ! Her breath went from atrocious to almost pleasant overnight. That was awesome. So that's one less thing she has to endure while she's under. |

| Sorry I don't have any advice for you. I just love the picture of her, she is so stinking cute! Maybe you can get some pain meds to take home to keep her calm. Good luck Izzy and a speedy recovery! |

| There's no such thing as spoiled when it comes to our babies! I have a homemade sling to carry Teddy around when I'm cleaning around the house it helps me prevent tripping over him or having him cry. Maybe asking your vet for some med recommendations for her will help! I hope she has a fast recovery! |

| Benadryl doesn't always knock them out and I'm not sure that's going to be necessary but if your really worried you could talk to your vet about it. You could just carrier her up the stairs but I think a sling might not be to comfortable for her.

| Izzy is just adorable,I love her earsssss, their just beautiful. Happy to hear they are playing, I love watching puppies play. Your vet should give you something for pain, if they don't ask about it. You'll be amazed at how fast they recover.

| I have never given anything but pain meds after a spay. I usually give them for about three days. These pups do get up and run around, but I still think they are hurting even though they often don't show it. It is their nature to hide pain. I see no reason not to use a sling. I don't believe you can spoil them! Spoiling is neglecting them...the word spoil to me is a negative one. Loving a pup is making him/her happy...not ruining/spoiling!

YT 500 Club Member | Guess that's a good way of looking at it. Thanks. I just know that too much activity after a hysterectomy can cause all kinds of s**t, and I started being too active just because I thought I felt good enough after, and found out what harm it did to me when the doctor told me to cut it out. So I figure dogs would be under the same principle. I could be wrong. Just over thinking probably. I do that. |

| You can ask your vet for pain meds...metacam is usually what's given for little bits like ours. A few days should be sufficient...they really do recover fast...of course it depends on how dramatic they are ;-) I hope things go well for her. It's usually harder on us than them!! |

YT 500 Club Member | My poor girl The vet didn't give her any pain meds at all. I'm bent about it. I only had my uterus removed and let me tell you, there was definitely pain afterwards. She's had her whole kit removed and she gets nothing? This is bulls**t. I'm going to my regular vet tomorrow and seeing what they say. I'm now trying to figure out how we are going to sleep since we can't leave either of them by themselves cause Sumo-Toby will not stand for separation without a loud fight. I am going to the store to get a heating pad, a cooling pad, some rice and meat for Izzy. Poor thing lost her bowels and I had to steam clean everything. She hasn't thrown up or anything. She's just shaking really bad. I'm all stressed out over her pain levels ... |

YT 500 Club Member | Oh and while I was gone taking izzy Sumo-Toby managed to find a strip of leather and not only demolished it but ate a good portion. I only know this because he threw up about 7 times and I analyzed the contents and found little 1 to 2 inch pieces of it in all the mess each time. So yeah... I'm a ball of concentrated stress right now. |

| Wow I'm surprised they didn't give her anything....we didn't even have to ask when my mother in law had her 10# male chihuahua neutered....and that's much less invasive. I hope the poor girl feels better soon :-( |

| Good Luck for your spay Izzy! My Pemny got spayed 9 days ago now and she's bouncing around like a lunatic, no cone or baby grow and the scar looks lovely. She has some painkillers and anti inflamitories the vet gave us and that's it. She ended up being able to reach the wound through the babygrow leg so she had to have the cone in the end, but only for 6days. Then we took it off. She stayed pretty calm with the cone and that meant it healed quite quickly. Good luck though, I hated my baby being done. But nothing to worry about after all |
