| ![]() Dinky had Metacam from vet. I remember it was only about 2 drops because he weighed about 2 pounds then. We only did pain meds for a couple of days. We also mashed his food up and fed it to him by hand the day after. I think he was so hungry that it helped him sleep. Our vet gave us a packaged collar which we did not need, so we were able to return it unopened and not pay for it. And I remember being so very happy when the surgery was over! |

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() Toby the Tyrant seems to be just fine now. Good as ever , no more throwing up. He's back to creating mischief wherever possible. I have a baby playpen set up in the living room and I switch them in and out of it. Cause Toby throws a fit if I'm upstairs and Izzy throws one if I'm downstairs. So I'm compromising. Izzy isn't real happy about it. She seems to be doing better. She still shakes sometimes but she's trying to be more active now. She's eating a little and drinking and peeing ok. I got her a heating pad and a cold compress to lay on if she so chooses. |

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() I about had a heart attack when we got back from the gym cause izzy had pulled down the big blanket and crawled up it out of the pen and was frolicking around with Toby like it was the thing to do. They had shredded the puppy pad I had taped down inside the pen and she had half of it stuck to her foot.we had to cut it off her foot. Her suture looks fine still, but I wanted to scream. |

| ![]() lol, my last girl was a determined one, if you blocked her out of a room, she found a way to get in it, even if she had to chew her way out of her confinement lol, not funny then but is now. I think that's a yorkie trait, now you know how determined they can be, when they want something they will find a way to get it or get at it. You are learning from them lol.

| ![]() I'm so sorry for you and Lizzie! You might try keeping her in a crate until her stitches heal so she doesn't bust them open. I would be finding a new vet!!! That's just not right for her/him to not give Lizzie something for pain. |

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() Yeah I called my regular vet who will be back in tomorrow and I have an appointment to have her seen. The reception guy said she should most certainly have been given something, and that no doubt my regular vet would give her something. Poor girl. So for now I just let Toby demolish the downstairs as he sees fit and I stay upstairs in bed my Izzy so she will rest. That's how she rolls. If I sleep for two days, so shall she. Lol. I have her on a heat pad and I put some arnica on her incision. It seems to be healing well all things considered. I gave Izzy a bath the morning of her surgery , she looks like ragamuffin and her skin seems to itch her a lot. She keeps pawing at her face and nibbling at her legs . And scratching her ears a lot. I can't bathe her so I don't know what to do for her. The dry shampoo doesn't really help much. |

| ![]() I'm shocked about the no pain meds. She sounds like a plucky little thing though. Anyway, I hope she has a good night and sleeps well. |

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() Yay! I love my vet. He's older than dirt and just awesome. Got his veterinary license back in 1942. and he was nice enough to hook Izzy up with some pain pills. He said they were good ones and he wasn't lyin. She started teetering while she walking and nodded out halfway up the body pillow ramp I concocted for her to get up on the bed without jumping. Needless to say she's not shaking or pacing anymore. She's even wagged her stub at me . Yay! |

Do not be intimidated....do not do just as the vet suggested...speak up for your pup! Additionally, it is probably good to get this cleared up prior. Ask if pain meds will be given...if not, walk away and find another vet to do the procedure! This post is for anyone who would just go along with what a vet told them. We don't have to accept this kind of stuff!

YT 500 Club Member | ![]() I took her to the place I did because they have the most experience with small dogs. This is New Mexico and themajority of people own chihuahuas . I just wanted to be sure she'd be ok with the amount of anesthesia and what not. But my regular vet tech understood that completely and just said for me to let them know in advance next time and go to their office directly after and they would prescribe something for Toby too, since they know that the other place won't. While I have complete faith in my vet, he is really really old and I just worry that he would shake or something during surgery. I'm probably being paranoid. But when I was there to get Izzy done, there were only two big dogs and the rest were izzy' s size and smaller. So it made me feel more secure about it getting done there. |
