Sometimes for whatever reason, the usually thin substance becomes thick (I've seen some come out with the thickness of toothpaste when it should be more watery)and the dog isn't able to express them themselves. If that happens, they can rupture. Vets will usually express them internally but they can also be expressed externally. Some groomers will do it for you too if you ask. And it's a smell you'll never forget, it has a horrible dead fish smell. That's probably WAY more than you ever wanted to know about anal glands.

| If she is a pup she should not need a cleaning. How old is she?

for my boys. They all had baby teeth removed which was a minimal charge. It's been around 6 years but the cost has not gone up much since then. In fact, last year Doodlebug has a lesion removed from his hind leg and also had a dental at that time. The vet suggested that since he was going under for the lesion that we do the dental to save on anesthesia costs. It was around $45-500 total including pathology. If your little one is still a puppy an actual dental is not needed and just the baby teeth should be removed. Have you checked into programs in your area that offer spay/neuter discounts? | Senior Yorkie Talker | Honey is 11 months... when I called they said everyone needs a cleaning just as a human would and the starting prices is 299. And the ones i called want to spay and extract teeth at different times. from what I read that's a bit much or maybe I'm being too frugal lol either way I don't want her to have issues from crowding so we'll see how many she needs
