This does not sound correct since the largest part of the procedure is anesthesia. If you are asking your vet the cost of a dental and spay separately that might be your issue. Additionally, there are plenty of clinics that will do both dentals and spays at a much reduced rate. My vet is part of a local spay/neuter program that sells certificates through the local shelter. You purchase your certificate and make the appointment for the spay/neuter at the time of the purchase. I believe that I paid $95 for a spay and $65

for my boys. They all had baby teeth removed which was a minimal charge. It's been around 6 years but the cost has not gone up much since then. In fact, last year Doodlebug has a lesion removed from his hind leg and also had a dental at that time. The vet suggested that since he was going under for the lesion that we do the dental to save on anesthesia costs. It was around $45-500 total including pathology. If your little one is still a puppy an actual dental is not needed and just the baby teeth should be removed. Have you checked into programs in your area that offer spay/neuter discounts?
