| dogsie dog shirt opinions? My hound (yorkie, 11.5 mo old)and I are failing miserably at house training. He uses his pee pad but also everything else. Smart guy except for that. maybe part of it is marking behavior. my house stinks!! just read about the dogsie shirt and thought it may help. Has anyone had any success with it? Thx Shelly and Kuzco |

| Is he unaltered? Are you using a feeding schedule? What is his setup like? (eg. does he have full run of the house or his he crate trained or using a x pen, etc?) |

| i am a woos and dont want to crate him. he has free reign. i try to keep an eye but get distracted. i am thinking that crating is something i should start doing-but this dog shirt seems like, if it works, it will keep him from doing anything until i take him to the appropriate spot and take his shirt off. |

| I'll let someone who maybe has used that shirt or is more experienced chime in, but I can tell you what is working so far for my little guy. - We have (6) Iris Exercise Pen Panels linked together in the corner of the living room with whelping pads underneath and training pads on one end, bed/toys/food/water on the other end. This is his zone and he sleeps here and when I can't have my eagle eye on him, it's where he hangs. If he fusses I ignore him or if he gets into the "red zone" I shake a cocktail shaker with a cap inside it to get him out of his fit. - He's still little so he has 24/7 access to kibble and water, but we do set meal times where I mix chicken baby food or hot water in with 1/8 cup of kibble and he usually eats it all right away. I watch him and within a half hour I take him out and stay outside until he goes. Sometimes it takes an hour. If he won't go and I can't wait any longer (ideally I'd stay however long it takes, but life is life - - ), he goes back in his pen. He always uses the pads in his pen (he likes keeping his fun half clean) - If he does go outside we have a fun celebration and then we play in the living room until he gets tired and then he goes back in his pen for a nap - As soon as he wakes up, I take him out again ... and repeat.. With accidents, make sure if you catch him in the act you firmly say NO (or whatever negative you're using) and immediately take him outside. Make sure to clean up accidents well so he (or another dog) doesn't decide to repeat on the smell. Nature's Miracle works great. We're planning to neuter at 5-6 months to avoid those hormones from kicking in as marking habits can be tough to break. You'll find what works best for you, but patience, routine and supervision are pretty crucial. Beware of products that promise an easy fix or shortcut. |

| I got Kuzco when he was 12 weeks old. We went thru some rigorous training then. After a few weeks I thought he had it down. I think he regressed. For my lifestyle i think these shirts would help. hope someone chimes in but i thank u for your help and will probably have to go back to your method. |

| Are you doing strict outdoor training? Or pad too? Is he neutered? A shirt like this or a belly band is not going to help potty train. It will prevent accidents, but it won't really potty train. You do run the risk of him learning just to pee in the shirt, and then you have not solved your problem. My boys have a piddle pad available to them 24 hours a day at home. It is best for our lifestyle and enable them to go frequently. Great advice above from Paisleypixels. The keys to success are limiting freedom while training, supervision whenever possible, and loads of praise/reward when he gets it right. I have a post about potty training on my blog: Potty Training Small Dogs - Dog Life and Style Good luck!

Love the blog post! Very informative! That's a good question - is he altered? If not, at that age, I would say hormones will work against you with the desire to mark. | |

| If he is not neutered, there is a good chance he is marking. This is a very difficult habit to break in an unneutered dog. Not impossible, but not likely. If he is not altered, then I would recommend using a belly band. Just be sure to give him adequate potty breaks and change the band/clean his belly to prevent infections.

| well-I just ordered one. I need to get my rugs professionally cleaned to remove the odor. So I want to avoid accidents after that. But I do hear you and will begin crate training and strict supervision too. |

| I am not a fan of diapers or things like diapers. In my opinion it dosent really teach them anything and if it does it teaches them if they pee or poo they are going to have to sit in it. Rashes and infections could happen as well as just a terrible mess if they poo. In fact I would think it might scare them fron going.
