| Easier to cut... Is it easier to buy clippers and cut your Yorkies hair yourself or let an expert do it ? Seems simple enough....? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | We groom out 3 bc I don't believe in leaving our precious kiddos with a stranger for grooming, bad things can happen. We use a scissors bc I never could get the hang of a clippers.

| I clip Blazer myself. I use DH's hair clippers and scissors. There are PLENTY of videos on YouTube to watch. You'll get braver the more you do it. |

| I groom my two. Bubba, I use the clippers and puppy cut him but with Sissy I just use the scissors because I just trim her skirt. I use a small clipper to do their sanitary trim.

| It's easier to let a professional do it you b/c all you have to do is drop them off and pick them up when they're done. Personally, I groom them myself at home for various reasons. To name couple, I don't like them being crated for how many ever hours waiting for their turn. Like Whylie's Mom said, there are some awful groomers out there (I know there are wonderful ones out there too). I use clippers b/c they're faster and I've gotten both my pups used to it. They don't look "perfect" but I've gotten much better since I've started. Even gotten some compliments the last time around. Pic below is Zoey. I gave her a haircut about 2 weeks ago. |

| Hi there, I went to grooming school to learn how to groom my Yorkies bc Mimi came home w/a burned lip. The groomer hurt her w/ hot clippers! There's lots of utube videos & I made a thread describing all the different blades. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...room-home.html Quote:

| I tried grooming them myself but it just didn't work out right and I recently cut Callie's paw when trying to shave the hair between the pads of her feet. Mine get groomed at our vets office and they all know me and Callie very well. It's harder then you think to groom them but finding a good and trustworthy groomer is also hard.

| Magnus great job! I was thinking of trying to cut the hair myself and if it comes out horrible then I will give in and go to a groomers. I have to be careful what animals are around my dog because of allergens. Plus I don't like how they smell so perfumy when they get home. Burns my nose. Thanks for the advice. Will let you know how it goes |

| It gets easier after a while, and if you do a little at a time, no mistake is so bad. Gracie was crazy the first few times, but last week she just stretched out and acted bored! I have the vet do her nails, but I always hated the way our last dog went from hairy to shaved. I really like the control. |

I think it's best to get your pup used to the tools first. Especially the clipper if you decide to use them. Also, put the puppy on a table or a place with small space so s/he won't have much room to roam. Good luck and please share pics of your baby's first cut!!!! | ||

| I found a picture of the very first haircut I gave Magnus. I'm just glad he doesn't care so much about style.. LOL 2nd pic is the most recent. I gave him a haircut same day as Zoey couple weeks ago. |

| At this point, I do some parts by myself. Like with Teddy, I can trim most of him and clip his nails. That alone saves a ton of money. Toki doesn't really need to be groomed much except for her face and paws so I just take her to a professional. I love our groomer and still take both of the pups there from time to time mostly for the face and paw trimming (I'm not confident about doing the face hair but I'll work on that eventually!). I've been trying to work on my skills and get to the point where I don't need a professional to fix my wonky trimming lol...the grooming costs really do add up, especially with more than one pup. And it's a quieter environment and a lot less stressful for them when they are able to be at home. |

| I take mine to a groomer because I am terrified of clipping their nails. I've taken them to 2 different groomers. When calling to make the initial appointments I asked up front if I could stay to watch. If they say no, my pups don't go. The groomer I use now is great. Her shop has a big window out front so I can sit in my car and watch. Yes, I feel like a stalker but hey, my babies are in there. She is very patient. When Barney would do his spaghetti noodle stance and go limp, she would gently pick him up and keep going.
