| Questions Questions Questions....teehee Good morning everyone Today I am here looking for some training tips. As most of you know, I recently adopted Summer a retired breeding dog. She has not really enjoyed the lavish lifestyle that our pups have had, but is gradually trying to fit in. I have started trying to teach her to sit when giving treats. I first tried what I did with Wallee as a puppy (and he was so eager to learn) and she just kept jumping up and grabbing the treat from in front of her nose. I then tried doing it with a closed hand and the treat in there, but she just keeps backing up when I try to move my hand over her head. Any ideas? |

| I would try to position her horizontal to you where you're facing her side. Have the treat in a close hand while keeping the other hand free using it to block her from backing up. Happy training!

| We taught Lolita by working with both her and Laddy at the same time. When Laddy sat he got a treat. It didn't take her long to learn the sit command so she could have a treat too.

| It is hard to say without knowing much about her background. Maybe since she may have not gotten many treats in the past the fact that she is getting one at all is very exciting for her. I'd maybe try working with her after she eats and her tummy is full so she is not quite so eager to eat. Or maybe if she responds to praise and encouragement you might try teaching her without treats during the session. Just make sure she gets one at the end of the training. |
