| Yorkie Home Alone Hi everyone!. I recently bought a maltese/yorkie mix who is now 4 months old. She is so sweet and a quick learner although there are a few things she could still work on. I was just wondering how often and how long you all leave your puppies alone at home. I don't work so I am home with her often, but I still feel guilty leaving her home alone any length of time. Now that the weather is getting nice I will be getting out more this my son going to the park and other outdoor activities that she can not attend. And no, the parks around here do not allow dogs . Just wanted to get everyone's opinion. Thanks! |

| Hi! Welcome to YT. I do work and my girls are at home alone. I felt guilty when I just had Rosie but now that she has Mikki it doesn't bother me as much. I know that they have each other to play with now.

| Dogs are very adaptable. I think as long as you put forth the effort to exercise the pup on weekends and/or mornings/evenings, all should be fine. Now for a young pup, I wouldn't leave more than 4 hours at her age. As they get older, most can do fine for 8. I personally would want to stop in once during the 8 hour day to make sure they get let out, but my Jackson has done fine for 8 hours on the few occasions he's had to stay alone for that long. But most dogs ARE left alone that long every day and do just fine.

| Both I and my fiancee work, and my yorkie typically is alone at home for about 8-9 hours. We keep her in a play pen area with her bed, pee pads, food and toys. She is fine and has no issues with that - she just sleeps throughout the day. Having a yorkie does not mean that you should have no life outside. Getting to the parks and spending time outside is really good for both your emotional and physical health! |

| I've almost always worked and left my dogs home alone with free run of the house once they were housebroken. The dogs have all done very, very well. Once I was home sick when I had Jilly and she still slept in the other room on my bed a good portion of the day, just as she did when I was away at work, while I nursed my cod and napped on the couch in the den.
