I've almost always worked and left my dogs home alone with free run of the house once they were housebroken. The dogs have all done very, very well. Once I was home sick when I had Jilly and she still slept in the other room on my bed a good portion of the day, just as she did when I was away at work, while I nursed my cod and napped on the couch in the den.
