Dogs are very adaptable. I think as long as you put forth the effort to exercise the pup on weekends and/or mornings/evenings, all should be fine. Now for a young pup, I wouldn't leave more than 4 hours at her age. As they get older, most can do fine for 8. I personally would want to stop in once during the 8 hour day to make sure they get let out, but my Jackson has done fine for 8 hours on the few occasions he's had to stay alone for that long. But most dogs ARE left alone that long every day and do just fine.
