| I would not personally buy anything made in China or India which is what almost all SS and ceramic bowls from PetSmart and Petco are from. I would think pyrex would be safe but now I am wondering about other glassware.

| Several years ago I needed new dishes and nearly every time I looked at some while shopping I would turn them over and would see they were made in China. That was right after the whole melamine fiasco and people were finding lead in Chinese ceramics. No thanks. If you want great quality bowls and dishes made here in the USA, buy Fiestaware. Awesome product, extremely durable, and NO lead! I LOVE my Fiestaware.

So, to summarize, the safest materials for dog food and water bowls are glass and plastic, both preferably made in the USA. Ceramic bowls that are certified lead-free or are food and beverage quality are also safe if they are made in the USA.

| I was told from my vet years back that the only really safe pet dishes are glass, and have been using them ever since. I buy the heavy duty Pyrex glass bowls. This all came about for me after one of my cats got sick from a stainless steel bowl. |

| I have a lot of different bowls, but I have mostly been using glass prep bowls from Williams Sonoma. Once I heard about problems with pet bowls, I have used human grade bowls much more. http://www.williams-sonoma.com/produ...l-8-piece-set/

| Bella's ceramic bowls were made in China (of course), so I went out and bought her a couple of small Corelle glass bowls: Corelle® Livingware? Winter Frost White 10 Ounce Bowl - World Kitchen Corelle is made by Corning, which is the same company that makes pyrex. They are light weight and very durable. I got them for $2.94 each at Walmart. |

| I tend to avoid plastic due to off gassing and chemicals, again noting that safety regulations are not in full force for pet products. I feel silly I never even thought of my stainless steel. We had an ice cream scoop recently that did the black smear thing- yuck- never had it happen before, tossed it immediately. Time to rethink the dog dishes...

Antibacterial stainless steel can prevent the spread of superbugs - SmartPlanet I haven't read about eating utensils being made out of it though. Maybe the silver is toxic if it comes in direct or constant contact with food or water for human (and animal) consumption?

| Well I cancelled my order for the ss bowls and going to buy glass now. It's too bad that the really cute ones I see are either plastic or the ceramic ones made in China.

| Can I get recommendations on glass bowls? I've never trusted the stainless steel bowls and now I'm not trusting the ceramic ones either!

Don't get me started on the lead in your water from pipes and fittings that you have no control over. A good consumer is a well informed consumer so when you are buying products that have to do with food always do some research first. You may be surprised what you find out. I am now on my way to look at some Pyrex bowls that are made in the USA.

| I too will be tossing the SS bowls & using Pyrex glass. Will need to find some flat styles bc the ones I have are bowl styles, perfect for water.
