I tend to avoid plastic due to off gassing and chemicals, again noting that safety regulations are not in full force for pet products. I feel silly I never even thought of my stainless steel. We had an ice cream scoop recently that did the black smear thing- yuck- never had it happen before, tossed it immediately. Time to rethink the dog dishes...
