| Best Tear Stain Remover I just got my new Teacup Yorkie a couple of weeks ago and he has pretty bad tear stains under his eyes. My other Yorkie doesn't have that problem so this is all new to me. What are the best brands to treat tear stains? |

| I have tried many different things but in my option a face cleaner works best. I use Espree plum perfect face cleaner and a brush that came with my kissy face cleaner. But a washcloth would work too.

| I clean Piccolo's eye area twice a day by patting the corners with a wet wash cloth and pulling out anything that has gathered. This has totally eliminated any use for cleaning products on her face and no tear stains. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Some of us have seen cleaner eye areas by not using tap water, but using bottled water instead. Others do use Angel Eyes and say it works well.

| I usually just clean Yumi's eyes with warm water and a paper towel, so no idea on products. He may have some allergy problems if her eyes get a lot gunkier than your other dog. Yumi gets a bit gooey seasonally but she gets worse if she gets a flea bite. Just something you might look into. I think I also read on here that plastic water bowls can make staining worse. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Angels eyes - (powder that you mix with their food) was the only thing that cured Crystal and I tried everything! It took about 3 weeks to work, but her eyes are now clear and very sparkly too... |

| Diet is a factor that can help increase eye discharge. Keeping the area clean and dry will help cut down on the red yeast that tends to grow in the damp areas under the eye. Angle Eyes does contain an antibiotic agent that some vets advise against using on a regular basis. Some people have had success with it but vet's question the soundness of having a pet using an antibiotic on a day to day basis. We feed Gracie a really good brand of commercial raw dog food and she gets filtered or distilled water to drink. We rarely have tearing except when someone slips her something to eat that she is not supposed to have. They do sell some all natural eye wipes that will help you clean the area regularly. Always be sure to use a dry cloth on the area when done cleaning. I would be very careful about using chemicals around your dog's eye area. |

I have to say I'm a bit nervous of this too, having suffered myself from the ingestion of a substance without a break for years! The danger, as I see it is the conglomerate effect on such a small system? I thought of stopping with the Angels Eyes and just continuing with her natural small dose liquid Pre-biotic for now, cleaning the eyes daily and see what transpires?

| I haven't tried it, but there is a natural version of angels eyes that doesn't list Tylosin. says it contains Cranberry Powder, Oregon Grape Root, and Marshmallow Root, and Freeze Dried Chicken Liver or Sweet Potato |

| Eliminating the cause for the stains is the first thing to do. There are many causes, including simple things like hair sticking in the eyes, causing them to tear excessively. The constant wetness causes stains (and encourages yeast growth?). I use wet cotton balls to clean the corners of the eyes, and comb with a flea comb (closely spaced teeth) to remove any debris or matter. The comb also separates the individual hairs. Espree and SPA facial cleaners are great to use in the bath.

| Bogey had tear stains years ago and I did 3 things that helped him. 1. I grew out the hair around his eyes. 2. Changed his food to Royal Canine Yorkshire Terrier brand kibble 3. Bought this and it was amazing! Eye Envy Pet Dog Starter Kit Tear Stain Remover Cleaner | eBay *I've since changed food but for a different reason. But still no stain. I believe it's because I grew the hair out.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Also they tear more when they are teething. If depends on the food they are eating can make a difference too. But do not change their food quickly. It can be a shock to their system.

If your vet has checked your dog's eyes and there are no problems with inverted eyelashes or some other abnormality of the eyelid then working with the diet and water as well might bring some improvement. Certainly cleaning her eyes daily with one of the all natural eye wipes out there or using purified water is a good idea. I would be uncomfortable keeping my dog in a continued dose of antibiotic if there is not diagnosed reason for it.
