YorkieTalk Newbie! | Help I need help! Friends I'm at the point where banging my head against a wall would feel more productive than training my Yorkie Rex. I've read it all, tried it all, it seems like anyway! But I've made a promise to this puppy when I bought him for my son. I feel that a promise was made anyway. A union of this little puppy with my family. So I can't give up on him. I just don't know what else to do? Rex goes potty where ever he feels like. He does ALL his business ALL over my house!!! It's a constant battle. I "try" to train him and I clean up his messes, all day everyday Please help! |

| One thing that helps is a good enzyme cleaner to use every time you find a spot. If you don't they will go back to it. Also is he neutered? That helps with the marking problems. Also you might try tethering him to you with a leash until you have better success and a good schedule helps also.

| How old is he? Youngsters (under 8 months) need to be confined (like in the kitchen or other easy to clean room) when your eyes are not on them.

| I was going to suggest the same thing. Start with confining him into a small area, and as he makes progress expand it a bit at a time. If he reverts to having accidents, limit the area to smaller again. This is what I do with Gizmo, and he's getting it and understanding that he gets rewarded with more space when he does good, and less space when he has accidents, but it just takes time, patience and training :-) Last edited by Sunnydayz; 03-08-2014 at 04:24 PM. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I also wanted to add - you should tether him as well (to you) when at home and you want him around you.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Thanks everyone! Rex just turned a yr on May 15th. Now that we ate not living in blizzard conditions here in VA i am able to take Rex outside more frequently. He seems to really do well when taken outside. Although its NEVER A QUICK TRIP OUT TO GO POTTY! I guess he still has that puppy energy and outside means play time! LOL We are still trying to get him house trained for when I can't take him out though! I guess patients and time are what it takes. Also, any hints on how to get him to stop eating the kitty poop? The cats r his best best buddies. I think he loves everything about them, even their poop!!! |

YT 500 Club Member | It really is a battle...I have a 4 month old and she goes everywhere. If I put a pad down where she seems to go most, she finds another spot. I watched all these videos and tried everything. No luck...I'm just glad I don't have carpet. I met a lady at pet smart that told me her yorkie is seven years old and sill not potty trained. I even tried diapers. They work for the peeing but just smashes the poop in the fur. So I stop doing that. I just keep trying hoping she'll learn from my other dog who is a maltese. |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Rex does the very same thing! I put the pad where he seems to prefer at the time. But as soon as I put the pad in that spot he switches!?! I kno he is smart and he loves praise and attention but he just does not seem to get it? Nor do I, I stay SOOOO baffled as to why he does this... |

| Try crating him more if he will tolerate it? Mine is 8 months and not reliably trained either. But he's an absolute nightmare in his crate anytime other than very late at night. Daytime, anytime after the sun comes up, he howls and barks as loud as he can for an (hour or more) until I get him out. He's ridiculous. So stinking cute, but the most difficult dog I've ever owned for sure. Just try to be patient and take it day by day |

| Put in a spray bottle lemon juice with water and spray it where he did pee or poo or he chew.consistency is the key!! ..take him ouside as often you can. About eating poo think about changing his diet. Is very well to teach the yorkie to stay in a room and not everywhere in the house, just when u allow him. another thing is neutering, talk with your vet. good luck! |

| Is he marking? I would keep him in a small play pen when you can not watch him.
