| Question about Groomers... I am so mad! I went to the groomers on Saturday (New Years Eve) and dropped off my Kelsey around 11a.m. b/c I had an appointment. The lady said she wouldn't be ready until later (didn't give me an exact time) and said she'd call me when she was done. She calls me at 5:30PM!!!! and tells me Kelsey has some knots that she "doesn't have time for" b/c she's "too busy". So she gives me the option of them shaving her bald which she said would've taken her longer until 9:00 PM that evening. (UM HELLO NO!) or that I could take her home (with no haircut or anything) and try to get her knots out on my own and then bring her back on Wednesday and they can finish her off. So I was of course a little irritated they #1 left her in a cage that whole time without getting to her until 5:30 and then #2 telling me to reschedule my appointment (how inconvienent). So I said "Ok", I'm too nice and figured they were just busy that day so I didn't really say anything, and rescheduled for Wednesday but i asked her if I could re-schedule the time for a little later in the day and for her appointment time to be a little shorter b/c Im not comfortable with leaving Kelsey there all day. So she agreed and we had a mutual time agreement and everything was set. Well....a few minutes later she calls me back and says "you know what? I dont think we'll be able to fit Kelsey in at all. You just dont want to be flexible with us and we have customers who've been comming to us for years whom we can fit in your spot" I was FLOORED she was treating me this way! My poor Kelsey was sitting in a cage all day long and she calls me at 5:3o at night to tell me she JUST got to her? I mean C'mon that's a little ridiculous! Am I over-reaccting??? I told her I couldn't believe she was treating a customer this way and that i'd never go back there again. She has the nerve! Sorry but I just had to vent and thought maybe somebody would understand me. Our babies are just so precious to us and my Kelsey doesn't like the groomers too much and all I was trying to do was compromise on a time that I could pick her up...not letting her sit there all day. JMO

| Chachi has cottony hair and always has matts. The 1st groomer I took him to just charged us a little extra cause of the matts. The second groomer did his groom and didnt charge us extra. I cant believe what that groomer put you and your dog through and no I dont think its right that she was there for so long and nothing was done. I would find a new groomer. All groomers are different and we didnt like the 1st one we went to either. We had a great experience at the second one. She was very caring and better with our dogs.

| I would think that where you live you could easily shop around, do some visiting, or whatever, and hopefully find a groomer that is a small shop or one-person shop that could do Kelsey at a set appointment time. That's what I have. Is it not possible there? I can't believe what happened to you!

| that is horriable. that is y i don't take apple to the groomers any more. i went out and bought me a clipper and learned to do it myself. granted it doesn't look as good but it is good enough and apple doesn't have to sit in a cage all day. plus after i would get her back from the groomers she would growl and try to bite me if i touched her legs. she doesn't do that any more since i started clipping her myself. sorry you had to go through that. |

| The "word of mouth" is the best and cheapest advertising for any GOOD groomer. My was recommended to me by a friend - didn't have a Yorkie but she said the groomer was good and loving to pets.

| Thats horrible! I would be so mad too. The Groomer that I go to know that I do not like to leave my babies there and gives me the option to bring them in first thing in the morning, and they do them right away and I pick them up in 1 hr. Its great!

| That is ridiculous!! I worked in a grooming shop and never have I heard one single person act that way to a customer!! For another thing was a bath a part of the groom? It usually is but never have I heard of them not getting to a dog before that long!!! For one thing a bather should have given a bath early in the day to make sure there weren't issues with the coat and address them in the beginning to know who to take first to the grooming table!!! They also need time to dry especially if the poor thing is afraid of hand held dryers and has to be towel dried and then have a cage dryer!!! They should also have a comfortable towel to lay on in the cage and have fresh water upon arrival and after the bath while waiting for their turn!! They should have a schedule and be taken out on lead or carried to secure place to go potty during their stay and make sure that nobody has a chance of confrontation by another dog who might be dog aggresive!! I would contact the owner and calmly tell them that is no way for anyone to be treated and if they treat their people customers this way what must they do with the furbabies you entrust to their care!!! And a very bad experience with one groomer can affect them for a long time!!! I would then run the other direction and like some of the other posts suggested word of mouth is great - you can also ask your vet. Then I would go and visit and let them know up front that you had a bad experience and any reputable place will gladly show you around and explain their procedures and assure you that they will be extra slow and gentle to help make sure that your baby has a good experience from now on!!! And if they don't have time for you and don't suggest a time to meet with you then they are not for you. Sorry so long I just feel very strongly about this and have seen first hand what a bad experience can do to a baby it just makes me nuts that places who really don't care about animals can stay in business!!!! Good luck and the good places are out there and you'll know when you find it and when you do stick with them - they will develop a relationship with you and your baby!! |
