Default What would y'all have done?

So last Thursday me and my fiancée were riding around some dirt roads near his house looking at his hunting land and on this one dirt road there was a house and there was a little yorkie sitting in the dirt road in front of the house. A little while later we came back by and it was laying in the yard. This was about 8:00 at night and I felt so bad leaving that baby outside. I begged my fiancé to let me get him but he wouldn't let me because he said it was somebody's dog. Keep in mind we live in the south in the country so there are a million things that could get that little yorkie. My fiancée went back by there yesterday and he said the yorkie was still outside. What should I do? I feel very uncomfortable not doing something I just don't know what to do.

Sure the little one has an owner, but clearly not an owner educated about their dogs breed. Anyone who just assumes all dogs are outdoor dogs because "they're a dog, that's where they go" shouldn't be dog owner IMO (sometime's big dogs need to be inside, too) and def. shouldn't have a yorkie.

That said… If that baby is still out there today or tomorrow, I'd take em in. Sounds like their owner wouldn't even notice

I can't believe the little fella didn't run off. I would like to think that I would knock on the door (only if not alone, mind you) and ask whomever answers if that is their dog. If the answer is affirmative, tell them it was in the road and you were concerned for its safety and you wanted to let them know it had obviously gotten out of the house somehow and that you know they must be frantic looking for it, so you were just letting them know it was now in the yard (you know, make something up like that, even though you know it is complete bs). I would then see what they did. ☆say thanks and take the dog inside. ☆Be rude and tell you it is none of your business. If it is the second, I would notify local animal control to do a welfare check. If they say the dog isn't theirs, I would say thank you, pick the dog up and leave. Then you could take it to a vet, have it scanned for a chip and keep it with you while attempting to find the owner with flyers, advertisements, etc. Or you could deliver it to a yorkie rescue if unable to locate the owners.
I hope that baby is ok. It is getting cool at night now.

I would pick that pup up in a hot min... not all dog breeds should be left outside. I've lived in the south most of my life and a Yorkie is easy pickings for most predators. If you pick him up check for tags/microchip.

I have made up my mind if that baby is there tomorrow I am going to get it. I would have talked to the owners if that's who owns her but they were not home that first night. Hopefully things will go well.

This sounds like a really bad idea; I know I'd greet any dognapper who came after my pup with hollow-points. Maybe see if you can buy the pup? But unless the house looks like no one is living there, I would absolutely not take the dog.

Poor thing. I would maybe see if you could buy her from them? I just don't know the laws and if you can just take her I am worried for he'd safety. Please keep us updated.

I would try and talk to the owners....see if it's even their dog or they even want the dog. Eventually, someone else is going to hit it or end up snagging , if an animal doesn't end up killing it first so it's worth a shot trying to save the little guy.

If I didn't get anywhere with the owners and I happened to see it running in the road again, I'd for sure pick it up.

Of course, you could always go the route of calling Animal Control. They might be nice the first time they pay the owners a visit and tell them to keep their dog contained in the yard, but they probably aren't going to be so nice if they keep having to go out there because the dog is in the road.

I was not planning on walking up the yard to get the dog I figured if it was just a little bit down the road it would y be dognapping. I really do believe it is the peoples dog because they are the only ones that live on that road. The past two times we have checked they haven't been home so I haven't been able to contact the people I believe to be the owners. I just really worry about the little baby. It's not unusual to walk outside and see coyotes or hawks out in the yard. I just feel like if the owners really cared they wouldn't leave that poor baby outside.

Default dog

That is down right animal abuse. I would take that dog and ask questions later. I hate to see an animal hurt or left in a car in the heat. I just have to do something. That is cruelty and it is heartbreaking. If you feel you are stealing someone else's dog. then call the animal shelter and have them come out and check out the situation. If the dog is taken try to make arrangements to adopt him.

Your sure the pup wasn't on a line? Your sure there wasn't an invisible fence? Your sure there isn't a puppy door? Your sure there wasn't food and water somewhere out there? Your sure the owner wasn't anywhere around?

No I do not feel you should steal the pup, I think if your "brave" enough to steal it that you should be brave enough to knock on the door and speak to the owners and see what is going on. I for one will not give you a pat on the back for stealing someone's pup without trying to talk to the owners first....

Yes I am pretty sure that when the dog is out in the middle of the road at 8:30 at night with no collar or anything on that there was no invisible fence or line. As for the puppy door I cannot say. And all the lights were out in the house as there were no cars home. I said that if I could see that there were owners home I would try and talk to them. We have been by twice and not yet seen that the owners were home and the dog was still outside. I don't plan on "stealing"the dog . I do think it is very unsafe for it be outside. It was 45 degrees outside when we first saw the dog, and I don't think any dog, especially not a small yorkie that looked to be about 4 pounds should be outside in the middle of a road.
