how to calm a puppy down my aunt got a puppy about 2 months ago. we don't think the owner of it did anything with it and left it with the other dog brother. the puppy is 5 months now and she still wont calm down no matter what we do. we even try the thunder shirt it does help a little but not much. and she been fixed and we thought that might help. since that did help my little yorkie but she wasn't that bad as my aunt little one. we just don't know what else to do to get her to calm down or how much longer it going to before she does calm down. if any of u have any idea that would help us to calm her down. thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Mine didn't calm down until he was about 10 months old, but to help him calm down I wore him out, long walks and lots of play time. Burn off that puppy energy. Also training helped to wear him out mentally.

I agree. Mine is 5 months too. Sometimes she has a CRAZY amount of energy, so I let her run it off, and dont try to settle her down until its necessary, like bed time. My dog loves fetch, that usually does the trick.

| I agree with everyone above -- lots of exercise! Having a daily routine helps too. The dog will fall into a rhythm of when to expect things. Have a little schedule of doing things at about the same time each day: play sessions, walks, meals, rest, and so on. I haven't been as good about getting my boys out the door early in the morning for a walk before it gets hot. They go a little nuts waiting all day for their evening outing. It makes such a difference to have the morning walk.

Exercise, like everyone else said. Also, when Lola gets too hyper she gets very bitey, so I grab her and hold her so she's standing on her hind legs with my hand on her belly under her arms and her legs are standing on my leg, so she can't bite me. I let her go after she calms down and then we play.

| My going on 2 yrs old girl Luma is *still* just as crazy as she has always been and she goes to agility classes or runs around the dog park almost every day. My 7 month old pup Rosie is one of the calmest dogs I've ever seen. So...I guess I have no advice but to agree with others about letting them exercise. Play with them. Engage them. They'll tire eventually.

she does play with her all the time and she does try to training her some too. I do know that my step uncle run after her in the house. she does know something already. but we think that she was so use to having her brother around to play with. and too I think he was bigger then her so he got what he wanted out of her when they did play.

after all her teeth are out and the news are all in and that will calm her down. but part of me don't think she will. I don't think she use to other dogs and people since the other owner didn't do anything just left her in room with her brother. just only come in clean up and feed them and give them water.

I just hope something does work soon. she can't hold her sometime for all the moving around it does take a very long time before she stop all of this. she can't even bush her out for all the moving going on. she got crazy when she see other people or even my little yorkie that is almost 2 years old. she try to scare mine not to long after my aunt had her at home. and mine didn't like it. she had other dog to do that to her when she was about 9 months to run after her but she was on her led and it was still hard to get a hold of her when she was run that fast away from other dog.

There is a difference between play and real exercise that gets the heart and lungs working hard for an extended period of time. When a dog gets to run or walk very fast for at least 20 minutes a couple of times a day it helps them to use up that excess energy they have. A good walk in the morning and then later in the afternoon along with some hard play, like fetch, will give both the pup and your aunt a break. The pup just has that energy that it doesn't know what to do with. When you tire her out she feels better and you do to because she will want to take naps and will not be getting into trouble. When they have that pent up energy they tend to go looking for things to do. They do have active minds as well as active bodies and that is why they get into trouble with that extra energy. Some hyperactivity can be genetic. It may improve with age but then you may find other odd behaviors as well. Hopefully that is not the problem with your aunt's pup. If the pup was never socialized properly it is going to take some concerted effort on your aunt's part to train the pup. Lots of gentle physical contact is important. Things like picking the pup up and holding her/him gently until she calms down several times a day will eventually help the pup learn to accept human contact and develop a trusting relationship. If your aunt finds the pup sleeping she can put the pup on her lap so it will sleep there for a while. The more she interacts with the pup with gentle and loving physical contact the more at ease the pup will get. If a pup like that is not socialized like this the chances of it ever being an affectionate little pet are slim. The pup needs help developing a relationship with humans. Pups that are left to themselves the first weeks of their lives do not feel comfortable with human contact because they were never introduced to it at the time when they were developing social instincts. Sadly, people will blame the dog for being "stupid" or "difficult" when it was actually the neglect of the breeder that created the situation.

she does play fetch that's one good things that she is good at and sitting I think is other and staying maybe other I am not to sure. she fallows my aunt all around my aunt house. she does that with me when I am over there. she don't break at me that much any more not like she does my aunt youngest son. I try to play with her when I am over there for a little bit. but sometime she just lay down on her back. when she does do that with me I just pick her up and try to hold her. but she does like to jump up on chair or other things if u let her. at time I think she like to show off for me when I am over there. but it's kind of hard for my aunt to take her out on long walk or even just a small one at that. but she does take her out for a ride in her truck everyday. she does say she does fine lot of the time every now and then she act up on her. yeah I think my at want to blame the breeder for not doing anything with her just left her alone with the other dog. she does even have problems when she get her hair cut. since the lady don't want to do full puppy cut yet since she still to crazy and she don't like a bath either. she think that the one that does her hair now might not want to do her any more. but she the same one that my little one goes to at petsmart that the only one that I really like over there right now. we did try few others but they didn't do a good job like she did on her. but she does seem fine when I had her on the led and walking her around the store for a little bit. but I am use to it. every now and then my little one don't want to listen on the led she want to pull me. but I keep after her to listen and she had class. I do know that my aunt don't want to spend the money on the class. I just hope something will change with her sooner then later.
