I agree with everyone above -- lots of exercise!

Having a daily routine helps too. The dog will fall into a rhythm of when to expect things. Have a little schedule of doing things at about the same time each day: play sessions, walks, meals, rest, and so on.

I haven't been as good about getting my boys out the door early in the morning for a walk before it gets hot. They go a little nuts waiting all day for their evening outing. It makes such a difference to have the morning walk.
