There are quite a few briewer breeders, many members here on YT. They are very beautiful but I am not sure I would call them rare.

Ok, had no idea I would be critiqued in this area as far as certain words to be used. So I will say they are "rare" for me, hows that? Any better? I personally never heard of them.

If the AKC is not recognizing them as a separate breed and there are maybe a handful of clubs in the United States, that tells me they are not that well known. I live in puppy mill central and still have never heard of them. To the YT members and Yorkie "people" I can understand. To the normal everyday Joe on the street, when I tell them what breed he is, they scratch their head. They started importing them from Germany around 2003 so they are not that old of a breed. Just like some everday Joe scratches his head when he sees a Saluki for the first time, for they are considered the oldest breed dating back to the 1800's from Egypt.

You watch, now that I mentioned the Saluki, there will now be a debate on wether it is the oldest breed or not...Oh sheesh! SMH. To funny!

Teehee I just couldn't resist. What about the Chinese breeds? Sharpei for example.
Pekenese?

melmorr 08-02-2013 08:36 AM

My boy was 400.00 because his colors were off and I volentered my time to the breeder for a discount. He came from a good line but he was not show quality. I do not show and I do not breed so this was not important to me. No Matter how much you pay for them they are worth every dime!

Pasolovers 08-02-2013 08:51 AM

I paid $650 for my little boy, the breeder originally wanted $1200 but I had the advantage at the time ……He is the most wonderful little guy…and I will and have highly recommended her to others. My little girl who is older, was a rescue that I paid $200 for her fee. She is a wonderful girl, very prima donna…my male is very out going , playful and what I refer to as "all boy". I call them my "yin and yang":heart to

You must be closing your eyes and ignoring the puppymills in your area (like so many do) cuz there are a ton of them (Biewers)in PA. Hell I've seen them posted for sale on Cardboard box pieces on a stick off the thruway on my millions of trips through there. I have had 2 Biewers my bff has 1 I even see them at the petstore imported from MO and PA.

Never heard of a Saluki, thanks for the info...we rarely debate about other breeds...we are Intense Yorkie Loving folks here!!!

I am sorry if you thought I was criticizing you. I just wondered why you thought they were rare because you have mentioned it in a few threads. Didn't want to start any debate either lol.

I want to apologize. I am sorry I hurt your feelings. I did not want that to happen. We just want to educate you and anyone else that googles it and reads this thread. We want to make sure people are not going to be taken advantage of. There are Breeders out there that that are in if just for the money. Hugs

I am one of those very few very lucky people that got my completely healthy furbutt for free. A friend of ours decided that we had grieved over the loss of our lab long enough (5 years) and it was time for us to get a new dog. She was not a breeder. She had a silky that she bred with a yorkie. No experience breeding. No testing. No papers. I took him home at 7 1/2 weeks (but met him the day after he was born). All things that I now know are completely horrible, but didn't know at the time. I wouldn't take a million dollars for him. He is my heart. I am a very lucky person. Next time, if I don't do rescue, you better believe I will research and "buy my breeder first".

OBTW, I had never heard of a Biewer either until I joined YT, but I do know what a Saluki looks like! Lol. :)

I don't like the way the first paragraph reads here, the way I perceive it anyway, I meant that YOU and so many others in PA are so immune to the Puppymills there that you don't even notice them anymore, desensitized to them. PA puppymills are loaded with Biewers and many other pups and it drives me crazy. The Amish being the biggest offenders IMHO. Its outrageous to me. I wish you and others would work harder there to get these places shut down in your state. You actually seem like the kind of person who should be involved with something like this. I think you could do a lot of good, if you wanted to.

Thank you for realizing that, but, in place of that you state above "YOU". Sorry to bust your chops but I am active with the largest puppy mill rescue in the United States which is Main Line Animal Rescue. Instead of worrying what we do in our state, it would be great if you were involved in yours? Eh? They are all over the place, it is just that in PA due to the Amish, we have more. I wish you and others would work harder in getting these places shut down in your state as well. As many YT people here say, education is a priority. I am not specifically a "YT" person and you stating I keep my eyes shut or "immune" was uncalled for. I could easily say that same statement to you as never hearing of a Saluki and they are an ancient breed. But then again, like you said also, your a "YT" person so how would you know? Being involved, like I am, in a rescue with a diversity of breeds is interesting and makes me less ignorant.

Bill Smith, who is considered the King of puppy mill rescue, has his own way of doing the rescues. Another educational fact is that it would be wise for you to do some investigating about the laws here in PA if your going to make such statements as the public "doing more". We cannot just go onto private property and seize any dog(s). Bill tries his best to get a relationship going with these BYB and the Amish. Once that is established, he goes to them mostly on a daily basis. Before the puppy mill owner takes that 7-8 year old yorkie female that cannot produce anymore or who is sterile, or takes that 2-3 yr old male who is not up to par as a stud and shoots them in the head behind the barn, Bill takes them off his hands and off to the rescue they go. Yes, shooting a dog as a way of euthanazia is legal here. Only so much we as a community can do to try to stop these crazy laws put forth by state lawmakers. Another educational fact: PA has the harshest puppy mills laws of any state!
Here is an excerpt from a well known canine magazine. This is also availabe on the rescues website www.mlar.org/about/

Main Line Animal Rescue is nationally recognized as a leader in the fight against puppy mill abuse. Our 2008 billboard in Chicago led to Oprah Winfrey’s groundbreaking and award winning expose on puppy mills and featured our undercover investigation with acclaimed journalist Lisa Ling. One year later, our efforts with Suzanne Smalley of Newsweek led to Whole Foods Markets issuing a directive to all their suppliers: they would no longer source any products from farmers also operating puppy mills. In 2011, MLAR wrapped a transit bus on the streets of Washington DC to draw attention to the USDA’s continued failure to protect dogs in federally licensed breeding kennels. Our work on behalf of puppy mill dogs has been profiled in People and featured on the Today show, Nightline, and numerous Animal Planet television programs. Main Line Animal Rescue was also instrumental in the passing of Pennsylvania’s new dog laws.

And here is that puppy mill episode, for I am happy to say that I know Bill personally and what he is doing is amazing! It does have graphic material so those of you who are afraid of the truth, then dont watch!!! To those of you who want to take this post as educational and want to know the facts, then I'd advise viewing it.

Well instead of saying "WE" as in those that live in PA need to do more, do your part next time your in this area...if ya see a sign like that just tear it down. Even if they realize it the next day and put another one up, thats one less day and maybe one less pup that was purchased to support puppy mills. "WE" rescue personnel have done it and continue to do so.

Not debating about a breed here. I never heard of a Biewer (common term used around here is a tri-color) and you say I must be keeping my eyes shut. Does that mean I have to sink to your level and say your eyes are shut cause you never heard of a Saluki? Thats silly, for I would expect someone who is a YT person not to know what it is. But then again, I am surprised as to how many educated YT people on here do know. :bravo:

lynzy420 08-03-2013 07:39 AM

Oh for goodness sakes you chose to seize the moment didn't you? I did clarify my post had you read further....You are on YT talking about Biewers being rare....there are numerous puppymills in PA of which I live nearby, very near and regularly am also involved in helping with the "situation"....Many, many, many many many many of these puppymills have Biewers and I see it all the time why haven't you???as well as byb's in your specific state. I had forgotten you worked with Mainline and are obsessed with Oprah and the publicity that comes with it that you have rammed down our throats numerous times. I never saw the episode and quite frankly don't like Oprah...I am not a fan of Oprah or Martha or any of those types that make millions off of Americans...blah, blah, blah...I don't know Bill personally, and really I'm too busy...

Last time I checked my American Citizenship came with freedom...not with borders around states...And if your belief and your statement is to let PA and Mainline etc handle PA's staggering puppymill problems without help from the rest of us...that is absolutey shameful, its been proven by the current state of the problem you most certainly do need help. I wonder what Mainline would say if they knew you were chasing supporters away????? Shame on you for even implying that I should not help PA. I can comment on PA, NY or any other state... your comment about my state, in fact; your whole paragraph is utterly preposterous and your primadonna attitude is boring and your obsession with Bill, Oprah and having your name attached to the rescue is just plain weird.

All rescues, big or small are equally important lady and quite frankly I think your statements are all laced with self absorbing bs. Congrats on having the biggest rescue, I wasn't aware there was a competition in the Rescue world, and for your diverse involvement with various breeds...I wil not sit and brag to you what I do here or in PA or in Turkey or in Ghanda, I don't have a need to be so self absorbing...Ignorant? The only ignorance I see here is your lack of proper communication and I surely hope you don't speak on behalf of Mainline regularly, your public speaking abilities quite frankly are lacking in many areas and are quite honestly downright crude. You like attention as evident by your posts here and your constant repetitive remarks.

BTW PA's new dog laws are wonderful but there is a loooooooooooooooooonnnnnnggggggggg way to go, I will keep doing my part in PA.
