People who don't value dogs

There are so many sicko's out there. Hopefully none of those creatures has a dog in the family or the yard next door!

I would say that people on YT are the most caring, dog people in this world! I know some people that like dogs but they don't treat them like family. I have had many comments from family, about how I treat my yorkies like my children. It hurts my feeling, but it does not change how I feel or treat my yorkies. They are family! There will always be those people that just don't understand the love that we have for our pets. Actually, I would rather spend my days with my pups, over spending my days with these so called family members!

I feel so sorry for the people who don't know the love of a yorkie or any pet for that matter. They just don't know what they are missing.

As far as the lady who left her dog in the car, I hope her act of stupidity teaches her a lesson that she will never forget!

Boy, I'd think if I ever let a dog - any dog - let alone my very own Tibbe - bake to death it would drive me crazy. I don't know how they ever get past it. I don't think I could.

On a completely different note, I had an experience with someone at a Walgreens about a year ago. Since they would not let me bring her in the store, I left Hazel in the car. I parked in the shade, left my sunroof tilted and the back windows down about an inch. It had been raining and it was in the low 80's that day. I went in to get one item and was back within 10 minutes to find another customer next to my car calling the police. Needless to say I was quite upset, but did understand the concern. I opened the car and it was actually cooler inside because I had been running the AC ~ that cooled the concerned customer off.

That person couldn't tell the car was still running? When I have to I leave Uni in the car with the car running and the ac on. I have two keys so I take one with me, obviously to get back in.

It's good that you had the a/c running. All of the infographics I have seen about cars indicate that on 70 degree days, with windows cracked, the car interior can still heat up to dangerous levels within minutes. Be careful.

You don't I still blame myself for my whippet drowning in a freak accident in 2008 and it's only after counselling and Neil reassuring me a million times that I'm not an evil person that I am starting to even think about getting another dog. I still get panic attacks where I feel it'll be a Bad Idea because What If I do something wrong or my pup has an accident etc etc

I completely understand where you're coming from and I am too, often astonished by the views others have on "pets". I would often get into arguments w/ family members regarding the "proper" treatment of "animals". At some point you just have to realize that every culture's view on the treatment of "animals" is VERY different. I know many people who have dogs tied up in their backyard simply for the purpose of HAVING A DOG IN THE BACKYARD!!! And it's completely normal to them. All we can do is just love our babies and appreciate the commonality we share on YT!!!

I agree with Lynzy...people post for shock value sometimes...gives them a false sense of importance. I never read the comments and fortunately, most people don't think that way.

And you know what...I used to be one of the ones who thought it was okay to leave the dog in the car for a QUICK (and I mean no more than 10 mints) run into a convenience store for something but since having Miley my views on that have COMPLETELY changed. I wouldn't leave her in the car for even 30 seconds alone and/or with the car off! Unless Miley can go with me where I'm going, she stays home. This lady left her dog in the car for an HOUR?! thats unheard of!!

Unfortunately, it's not unheard of and it happens quite often. Last summer I heard in the news that a young woman left her golden retriever puppy in her car while she shopped at the Ontario Mills mall (huge outlet mall) for THREE HOURS. The dog died.

I actually don't have a problem with leaving a dog in the car for a few minutes if the AC is on. Uni loves the AC. We have no AC in the shop or at home, so she's actually more comfortable in the car.

I don't understand people who just keep a dog in the backyard and that's it. It's almost a chore to feed and clean up after them. That's really the only interaction they have with them. The next door neighbors have a Westie. I talked to them once about him and found out he's from a rescue. I can't believe they were accepted to adopt a rescue. He's still in jail, but just in the back of a house now. And they have a pool so there's no lawn back there either.
