that poor dog. And honestly, before coming here, I never knew how dangerous it was to leave dogs in cars. I mean you'd think it'd be common sense but even some of the simplest thoughts still need to be advertised. I could never leave Miley in the car alone due to fear of theft. I would die if something happened to her

However I do get annoyed sometimes. Once it was not even 60 degrees out and drizzling this woman told me I was being inhumane by not leaving the window open. Yeah so someone could steal her?

| As an old attorney myself, I understand the legal principle that the gentleman was suggesting. In our society, like it or not, a beloved pet is still deemed a "chattel" or property. For example, if your beloved pet was mishandled by a groomer, vet, pet sitter, or negligently injured by anyone and was killed, the most you could recover from any Court in the United States is the economic value of that pet -- his/her proven purchase price. You'd get nothing for your baby's pain/suffering or your emotional distress. Maybe -- and I say maybe depending upon the laws of your State -- you'd get vet bills reimbursed. IMHO: His comment was immature & unnecessary but it was based upon an old legal principle that's still in effect today. Instead of expending energy chastizing him, the people in this like-minded community should work harder at changing our laws. That's just my explanatory 2 cents. I agree with everybody on the bandwagon, however. Last edited by luvlee; 07-20-2013 at 06:02 PM. |

| People who don't value dogs usually arent very warm people. And they are definitely missing out on a good part of life. That's a fact. |

| It is so upsetting to read that people do this to their animals. WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? I love my dogs like my children.

| Yes, but unfortunately, many (not all) of these state statutes don't have much teeth beyond a fine. |

| Oh this makes me so upset. I can't stand people like that. Lack of compassion for a living breathing creature just really gets on my nerves. It is so sad that the yorkie died from something so easily prevented. I do hope the woman is charged. I hate that pets are considered property only. I would love to see that law change. These days pets are family to many of us and we are devastated when something happens to them. You can replace any piece of property and make it an exact duplicate but you can't ever do that with a pet as they are living breathing unique individuals and you will never get that back. I've never understood this. I see it all the time and I can't tell you how many times I've been tempted to just take the dog. Literally no interaction with the dog besides giving it some food and water. Really what is the point? Why have a dog you are just going to chain up outside and never do anything with it? Go get a life sized stuffed animal, less mess to clean up and you don't even have to feed them.

Folk who keep their poor dogs in the yard 24/7 should have the poor mite taken off them and be given a statue instead!!!!! I actually find it upsetting the amount of folk regard taking their dog for a walk on the lead around the block or a couple of hundred yards to the shop to get their morning paper as adequate.....or even a chore!!!! To me, walking a dog is THE best thing in the world......watching them enjoying all the new sights and sounds and running and rolling in the grass or beach....even rolling in horse poop or mucky seaweed as my whippet Tina seemed to love doing the minute my attention was off her! Little monkey!!!!! I cannot wait to get my yorkie and take her everywhere to be socialised and, once she's old enough, out exploring the Northumberland countryside and beaches with me If he behaves I may even allow my husband to come with us hahahaI've spoken to an amazing amount of folks who say they'd love a dog but are put off by the thought of picking up the poop Now THAT is a VERY silly reason to deny yourself the pure love that a dog gives Especially when these very same people have got children and have quite happily changed a nappy or wiped a baby's bum *yuck!!!!* Last edited by Gillykat; 07-21-2013 at 09:27 AM. | |

I cannot and will not condone advocating violence for violence. If you had the ability to do such a thing, what makes you any better than this woman. Her action was done in stupidity, and likely ignorance. Yours done in anger and retribution. Read the first sentence. People were saying she should be left in the car to die too. Is that where we have come? That if you are an animal lover, it is OK to wish harm on a fellow human being for harming a non human animal? I'm sorry, but I think that kind of mind set is sickening. I stole him and I fed him and treated him like a king, and when he died, I took his body to his so called owners and left it on their porch with a note saying that Tank died warm, happy, fed, and loved the way he should have, not freezing, sad, starving and forgotten like he would have.
