| Going potty on command, but... I still can't really trust him when I leave the room. He's only 4 months old and when I say "go potty" he walks over to his puppy pad and pees on it. Every time. I'm SOOOO proud of him to be able to do that. I actually can't believe he does it. But, if I leave the room (not every time, but every once in a while) he will pee on the floor. Is this just because he is still so young? I'm thinking I should just put him in his crate when I have to go in the other room. Even if it's just to get something real fast. He doesn't go potty in his crate at all, so I won't have to worry about that. Do you think this is what I'll have to do for a while until he has full control of his bladder? I'm hoping this will go away with time. Thanks for any advice. |

| I would opt for an xpen with his piddle pad when you can't supervise closely. The crate may cause some confusion. Always make sure the piddle pad is within easy reach, and reward and praise when he does it right.

| Well, I have been using the crate when I can't watch him and he is already used to that. But every once in a while I will go to the kitchen and get a drink or something and he will be waiting for me to come back in the living room where he is and he will pee. This happens maybe once every week and a half. So it's not a huge deal. I do have an xpen, but I am at home all day long and don't really want to have it out since it's so big and he'll just cry for me to let him out. I do use the xpen pen when we have to be out for a few hours and I LOVE it. And he will always potty on his pads when we have him in it. He's so weird. |

| Do you give him a yummy treat everytime he goes potty? I always give a treat and make a big deal out of it (dance and all lol ) ... Bentley goes on his pad everytime just so he can have his little party lol. He's 4 months old too . He comes to me right after using his pad all happy because he knows whats coming ! Hang in there, they have accidents once in awhile! 4 months is way to young

So he's peeing when you come back into the livingroom, and not away from sight while you're gone? How much pee is it? Some dogs are submissive urinators, it's a sign of submission and they'll pee sometimes while in the presence of their owners or other dogs who are 'king' over them. In puppies, it can be excited urination - which is not the same as submissive urination, and they usually grow out of it...they get all happy to see you return and pee. With puppies this usually doesn't happen (when it's excited urination) unless they had to go prior to seeing you anyway, and just hadn't done it yet. Since you said this only happens every week and a half or so, I'm thinking this is probably excited urination because his bladder was full and he spaced going beforehand. If I misread your post - then disregard all of the above. | |

| He might be doing it purposely, as if to say "Well hmph! She wandered off...I'll show her!" :P It's not as uncommon as you might think...Bella did it a couple of times when she was tiny. |

| This made me laugh! I actually thought that was what he was doing too. But I didn't know if they thought like that. |
