Default Going potty on command, but...

I still can't really trust him when I leave the room. He's only 4 months old and when I say "go potty" he walks over to his puppy pad and pees on it. Every time. I'm SOOOO proud of him to be able to do that. I actually can't believe he does it. But, if I leave the room (not every time, but every once in a while) he will pee on the floor. Is this just because he is still so young? I'm thinking I should just put him in his crate when I have to go in the other room. Even if it's just to get something real fast. He doesn't go potty in his crate at all, so I won't have to worry about that. Do you think this is what I'll have to do for a while until he has full control of his bladder? I'm hoping this will go away with time. Thanks for any advice.
