| ![]() Red flag for me.... I would assume they arent offering them because they don't have them, and that means the parents might not be registered, or one was akc, the other APRI or some other bogus registry.

| ![]() I agree that I would not pay for a purebred Yorkie without papers. Even if I did not intend to follow through on registering my pet, the papers are one more way of verifying a good breeder, imho. (although they are not a 100% guarantee of a well bred dog) Also, you want a contract with the health guarantee up front. When we picked up Max, we sat down with the breeder to go over the papers, signed, and were handed copies. Then we paid the balance due. The contract required proof of neuter before the AKC papers were mailed to us. Teddy came from the same breeder, and she had him neutered before we picked him up at 8 months of age. He came home with his AKC papers.

| ![]() Personally, I think lack of papers is a major red flag in regards to the breeder. A reputable breeder will always give you papers. There are breeders (using the word loosely) that will sell the same puppy, at one price with full registration, a lower price with limited registration, and an even lower price with no papers. So, what happens to those papers that people choose not to pay for? A lot of paper-shuffling between litters most likely.

| ![]() Another reason for no papers is because if a breeder registers more than 5 or more litters in one year with AKC they are subject to being inspected. Some people fail their AKC inspections so they will continue to breed and sell pups with out papers or they will just register their pups with a registry like APR, CKC or ACA.
