| Snake!! Tonight I asked my DD to take the dogs out, this means going in the backyard with them and watching them. She opens the backdoor,Skittles who ALWAYS must be first, blasts out the door and right past a foot and a half long copperhead snake. My DD almost stepped on it,she screamed, the rest of the dogs stayed in the house!! Skittles was told to stay,DD retrieved him. DH and I killed (beheaded) the snake after we cornered it. We have been discussing moving out of the city limits, but between the coyote we followed down one of our streets last night (we were in the truck),it didnt even care and tonight I think that the country is coming to us. I REALLY HATE SNAKES!!! |

| I have decided that Skittles is truely a charmed pup. In his life he has survived a pancrious attack from to rich of food,he crawled under the smoker and licked grease off of the ground at age 5. At age 9 he sucked down our 70lb dogs pain meds when my DD dropped them on the floor and now the snake. |

| Bless his heart, he sure has lived a charmed life. Be thankful, any of these could have had a tragic ending. I want to rub his belly and see if his luck will rub off on me!!! lol...

| We refer to him as "the worlds oldest puppy". He still runs the fence line, barks like crazy if given the chance. He is 11yrs old and has finally learned that "enough" means stop barking. |

| How scary! Between the copperhead and the coyote it sounds like you have had a taste of the woes of country life. Both your DD and Skittles were very lucky! |

| Yikes---I'm so glad everyone's okay! Evidently there are lots of snakes & other wildlife in unusual places due to all the extra rain we are getting this year plus the construction of new homes, etc that are uprooting them. We're about 10 miles from town, 15 miles from a national forest & near a golf course. All that to say that I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised the other day when Milo (my Yorkie) & I ran out on the deck to let the awning in b/c of an impending rainstorm, turned around & faced about a 3 ft long snake about 5 feet from us. He was looking at me & I certainly was looking at him. It scared me so bad that I screamed, scooped up Milo & froze. All I know is that he had a flat head & was patterned. Don't know if he was poisonous or not; tried to find a photo of him on the internet, but was unsuccessful. Thank the Lord that he slithered off the deck in the opposite direction. I must have a strong heart, otherwise I would have died right then & there! |

| I'm glad Skittles and your daughter are okay, and that you were able to catch the snake. Living in the Virginia woods, I am scared of copperheads. Thankfully, I've only encountered one small one and it was already dead.

| I am also from WV, and I hate snakes especially copperheads. Once a month at my parents in the summer, one (or more) is beheaded. I'm glad your little one and daughter are safe. |

| Horrors! This story made me pull my legs up onto the couch! I have never ever seen anything other than a grass snake in person or at the zoo years ago and those I didn't really even look at, just kept walking through the creepy building where they were so as not to totally give in to my fear. But once I was out of that place, I felt crawly all over and had to leave the zoo. I don't know what I would have done being that close to a nearly 20" long snake but it would probably have involved a lot of screaming and blind, wild running the other direction and not sleep for a while. And if the country has any more snakes than the city, and I suspect it does have lots more, I will never ever life there.

| When I moved to NW Arkansas a couple years ago, I was warned right away to always look before stepping out because for some reason they like to come onto a porch. Thank goodness no one was hurt. What a good good dog to stay, when told to do so! My Libby would do just the opposite! She would chase ANYTHING if she got a chance. She'd be a gonner for sure. I HATE SNAKES! I am watching for them all the time when I'm outside!! |

YT 2000 Club Member | dog I was sitting on the edge of my chair worried about Skittles. I am so glad he and the others were not attacked by that snake. I always look out before I go outside with the yorkies. Back in my hiking days, I was taught to always look ahead for snakes. We all need to be careful now that the snakes are out and about. |
