If you study some of the methods that greeders use to get tiny pups it would turn your stomach. I'm not going to give the details here because it could give someone that may be lurking ideas. Just suffice it to say that many of the people who advertise "tea cups" are some of the most disreputable people on earth. It is a love for the babies that causes so much passion about the subject of "tea cups" not some sort of snobbery toward tinies. I'm sure there are many good breeders that have shed some tears after reading of the heartbreak that gets posted here by people who did not know about the term "tea cup."

As someone already stated the "teapot" club was started as a joke. It's not a serious club. I think everyone at YT is in a club. If they own a Yorkie, or a part Yorkie, they have a bond in that they love the breed. Please don't let a good natured joke cause you to have hurt feelings. No one thinks badly about your baby or your breeder. You did the right thing to find a good breeder and you must have impressed that breeder if she entrusted you with one of her little ones.

Perfectly said, best post I've ever read regarding this....let me add this, I would never ever want to be involved in anything that perpetuates the pain and suffering that these poor defenseless teacups and their parents suffer daily....unlike Gracielove would be willing to share the truly abhorrent disgusting details and pics of the teacup Yorkies who are PURPOSELY bred....I could start with the dead pups buried in Tanisha Bretons backyard..

This topic kinda rubs me the wrong way reputable breeders do not use the word teacup period so why should we? You won't see people out there selling "teapots" and jacking there price up ridiculously so no harm is done with the nick name but with teacups if you are using that word you are saying yep there fine so go look for your teacup. So what is the point of this? Do you want to call your puppy a teacup? To those of us who are educated about the breed feel like when someone uses the word teacup that they must not be educated in the breed. The standard is not to exceed 7 pounds so any yorkie under that is standard not a miniature or anything like that. Personally I think a teacup is something to drink tea out of and a teapot is the pot your tea is in.

That is absolutely not true. You would be very surprised at the number of people who want the larger yorkies, especially people with children. I remember one family who adopted a 17 pound yorkie from YHR and the reason was because they were from England where it is common to see the larger yorkies. They were very disappointed when they started looking for one here in the US.
They also wanted one with a full tail which this one had. He was a gorgeous yorkie. We have never had a problem adopting out larger yorkies.

I also want to say to you that healthy is not always something that can be determined from an early age. You say you sought out a breeder who breeds tinies. I would be concerned about that...you call him/her reputable and I would definitely question that. BUT...nothing that can be done..it is what it is. I hope you are right and you don't have health issues down the road. They often come along later on. And, of course, they can come from any sized yorkie; but when breeders are intentionally breeding tinies, it is more likely to happen.

I hope you have many happy healthy years with your pup.

In fact, it's been mentioned in previous threads that her breeder is an AKC Breeder of Merit. I believe her pup is actually expected to mature within the smaller range of standard & is not what we at YT would consider a "teacup". I just wanted to put that out there because I have a fierce loyalty towards my breeder & I understand how people would want to protect theirs from criticism as well.

Just because a breeder is AKC doesnt mean their reputable their only a registry. How do you know I was going to criticize her breeder I very well could have found no red flags and said i agree with you. When someone says my breeder is reputable and breeds for tinies someone is going to ask for a website if it wasnt me it would have been someone else

It's clearly a common thing for MOST people to want a smaller yorkie. Otherwise the term "teacup" wouldn't have the reputation that it has. I didn't say people don't want larger Yorkies.

I NEVER said that. And as I've come to find out Miley isn't even considered what would be considered "teacup" weight. Miley will be smaller than her brothers at 4.5 lbs or maybe even more and the breeder was worried about her being that little! Not once did I say I wanted a breeder who bred tinies unless you're referring to my desire for a small pup BEFORE coming here.

But that's the thing...WHEN did I say she bred for tinies?! None of her puppies have ever been tiny...they've been smaller Yorkies but never less than 4lbs fully grown...and she is very reputable thank you. And trust me at the rate you're going you wouldn't have stopped until you FOUND something wrong with her.
