I think at this point, we've all established our opinions. It doesn't really matter what anyone says, teacup will never be an accepted term in the yorkie world.

I liked the comparison someone made of teacups to special needs children. Both are special in their own ways and are not inherently 'bad'. But why purposely breed a dog so small that can be so easily hurt? Even if they are 'healthy', one jump off of the couch could break their legs... Why would you want to do that do a dog?

Breeders should be breeding for healthy dogs. If they happen to have a tiny, that's one thing... But to purposely bring litters of tinies into this world is inhumane imo.

xoCourtney- I absolutely agree with you. It was totally unprovoked, uncalled for, aggressive, and unnecessary. It would have been much classier if you had received an apology. This exactly. I didn't know better when I got Uni. Turned out she was from a broker. Even though she a great dog, she has LP and pancreatits, allergies to who knows what and a very poor sparse coat. For the amount I paid for her, I could have gotten her from a reputable show breeder! So I try to warn others about brokers and millers now.

Funny part is, at one point, they had to be doing that to get the standard down to what it is today.< just a thought. I agree that any smaller isn't needed to be purposely bred for. More breeders that breed good healthy lines are needed!

And educating is okay you guys are the reason I didn't buy an unhealthy dog! But belittling those who want smaller dogs is not okay to me.

But smaller than 4 lbs. is just a fragile dog. It's time to stop this madness and protect our dogs so they are not so small they get hurt just jumping down from the furniture or off the porch.

This is true, but at that point, those dogs weren't so small that they were breaking their legs. The tinies (2-4 lbers) are the ones you hear about breaking bones from everyday activities.

Thank you! Yet somehow I'm made out to be the bad guy. Of course I have hard feelings towards chachi now. And I DID try to ignore her but that only works for so long for a 21 year old...but thank you and yes I have been more then educated on both sides of the issue!

That's kind of part of the problem though! If you have over a certain number of dogs (here in my county it's 3) you have to pay a kennel fee for a license, even if you are not breeding. However, once you pay that small fee, there isn't a cap to how many you can have! I'm sure bybs pay the fee and then give the least amount of legal care and no one can do anything about it. A lot of new proposed laws will harm the reputable breeders who follow rules, and not really harm those who don't follow the rules in the first place.

I knew you were young Don't worry, after you've been on here for a few more years... You will understand. We have hundreds of new members that join and this teacup discussion comes up a LOT. It gets old, so that is why a few members are a little more harsh with their answers.
