Over the years I have seen some small yorkies in the show ring. Some that are in the 4 to 5 lb range do become champions. I don't know of any under 4 lbs but I guess it is possible.

I get the size thing to a point. I personally will never own a dog under 10-12lbs. It's just not my thing. But I understand some love having these tiny dogs. To me it's just a matter of safety. If you are seeking out a dog that grows no bigger than 3lbs, honestly just get a guinea pig.

I usually do explain, bc people either ask me "Is Uni a teacup? I want to get one like her" or "I want a yorkie like Uni, but instead I want a teacup". In either case, whether they think Uni is teacup or not, they are letting me know they want to buy a yorkie. So I feel it's my duty to let them know. I usually tell them the quick version. Only breeders who breed for money will label their pups "teacup" and then they will charge you $2000+. After I say $2000 I usually get the face and then they are willing to listen more. Most are not ok with spending even $1000 for a yorkie, and this is Orange county, CA.

Like I said before on the part of there website where it lists each thing about the Yorkshire terrier under weight it say not to exceed 7 pounds so apparently its only some of there website.

They would be allowed in the ring, but there wouldn't be any point in it. Since the YTCA and reputable breeders won't breed a female under 5 lbs, why go to the time and expense of championing a dog that won't be used in a breeding program.

Now for males, I'm not sure if the like them at a minimum weight or not for going in the ring.

I have heard show people say they will not bring a dog into the ring that has more than 2 or 3 faults. All dogs, even champions, have faults when compared to the breed standard. You can even bring a Yorkie into the ring that is larger than 7 lbs, and if they are not too much over and they are otherwise a great example compared to the standard, they could potentially be championed.

You know I don't watch that trash, so even if I did, I wouldn't know. But let me tell you, lots of people down here think they are on that show, or should be. They are in certain richie rich cities. Not where I live, can't afford that. I guess those are the people that would brag about paying $2500 for a micro yorkie. But the majority of us mere "peons" would never pay that much.

OP, I honestly don't understand your issue. Have you personally run into people who have insulted your puppy or your breeder? You have a puppy. At this stage you don't even know what size your pup will be when she is done growing.

If you know people that realize that the term "tea cup" is related to BYB's and puppy mills then they are a rareity. Since you have a young puppy I doubt anyone could identify her as a tea cup and if they did then it would indicate that they have very little knowledge about the subject.

Gracie is 5lbs and people often ask if she is a "tea cup." I don't think anything of it. They just don't know. If I have time to have a conversation with them then they get to learn a few things.

Yup a reputable breed doesn't try to get tiny but they do get them. But they don't sell them till they are 2 1/2lbs unless they know the person is a capable Yorkie friend I think ppl are bad mouthing breeders who plan for 2-3lbs all the litter
