I gave him Benadryl and he's feeling a little better. Now he's biting my pants! This is the first time I am glad he's biting my pants lol ... Omg what a horrible day... He wasnt eating either because he would just run away to scratch. Mommy just boiled some chicken and hand fed a little bit of kibble and gave him nutrical

. He's happy again! I hope it lasts! :-/

I think everyone is happy to hear your pup's doing better. If he's feeling after taking some benadryl, it seems like he was having allergic reaction to something. I hope you can find out so it won't happen again.

I'm glad the Benadryl helped. It could be it helped with the itching or it could be it just made him sleepy enough that he got some relief. Did the vet get a really good look into the ears or was the your little guy moving around too much for him to really see? Did he swab the ear and look under the microscope? I just hate to think of something going on in there that was missed. I Hope he is doing better today.

Just fyi...even though you saw some relief w/ the Benadryl - I highly, HIGHLY doubt this was an allergic reaction. At his age, allergies don't really happen due to his immune system development. The benadryl probably only helped bc it makes them calm and sleepy.

Did you go to a vet? If not, I'd go ASAP. With the crying - that's a pretty severe symptom and dogs don't cry unless something is truly going wrong.

I went to the vet twice, he couldnt find anything wrong with him, he gave me a prescription for Benadryl the second time I went. Bentley was acting normal again after the Benadryl and slept all night long. He was like new this morning, he went potty, ate his breakfast and was playing around. I waited 16 hours to give him just 0.5mL Benadryl but I am not planning on giving him any more Benadryl. If he continues to rub and scratch, I'll look for another vet tomorrow.

His ears would move and then he'd shake his head like they were bothering him or itching. I don't know if you read my previous posts, he slept all noght long with a tshirt of mine that was heavily perfumed. It could have been the perfume, and when the vet was checking his ears, he kept moving, and I think it hurt him and that maybe why the ears were shaking after. :-/ I don't know. I am keeping an eye on him, but he's not acting weird today.

Actually, he was REALLY hyper after the Benadryl for about 3 hours and then he laid down. The vet looked under the microscope an took a little bit of wax I think and told me he was going to check it just in case but everything was normal and didnt look like mites or anything like that.

He said maybe I've been cleaning his ears too much?

Does he sound like a good vet to you? This is my first time owning a puppy and I dont have any experiences with any vets.

Maybe you could check your billing receipt to see if any microscopic tests were done? I would expect that they swab the inside of those ears to check for a fungal or yeast infection as well as mites.

It really does not sound like mites. Something like mites does not usually start with a sudden onset like that. If he had some sort of fungal infection it could have gotten to an area that is more painful and started to bother him. If he never saw into the ear that well he should have had you or a tech hold him still so he could get a good look.

I am glad he is doing better. I would maybe stop the ear cleaning for awhile. I personally have never used a cleaner in my dogs ears but it may be irritating his ears. You cluld check with the vet on what is the best way to keep them clean.

Sasha had an infection in both ears when she first got here. Her ears were sagging down and she'd slowly scratch them. She never randomly whimpered though. When I took her to the vet, they swabbed the inside and checked the junk that was in there under the microscope for the diagnosis. Only when i went to clean her ears and put in the medicine did she whine. Idk if any of this helps you any, just wanted to share my experience with ear infections.

Ummm, I thought cheerios were a good treat.

I read several thoughts/opinions that stated they were good. And if a vet says they are good to give, tell me what you know about cheerios not being a good treat to give them. My yorkie is 4yrs old and not a puppy so maybe that's the difference?
