| How to train my yorkie to stop barking? Hi Human Dog Parents! My little girl Alice had recently gotten spayed on May 10th and I've notice a little change in her, she barks a whole lot more. I take her out on walks and such but she's always barking for little noises she hears, how should I train her on not barking so much ?

| I don't know that it is possible. I have a yorkie who only barks when she is playing but have had ones that barked at everything. I think maybe that is a question for true experts

| Waiting patiently for answers to this as well. Monty is a teapot yorkie and is barking a lot now that we are outside so much more and I would really like it to stop. We have a spray bottle with water that we squirt him with and say 'NO' when he barks and that seems to work. Sounds mean but it is only water and it seems to work sometimes. Mostly I call him and if he comes he gets a treat, so no we are not torturing our wee sweetheart. We live in a neighborhood that has a lot of dogs and once one starts they all start so it would be so nice not to always be the cause of the uproar. I would never use a bark collar or any of the other products out there but if someone has a good method I would love to hear it!!! |

| The only way I have found is to quickly distract them with something else, a stick..if you outside ..just anything....I did this with Tucker and he rarely barks and if he does you had better look to see what it is because he is trying to tell us something! I think the important thing is to not let them get into the habit! I don't know why he would do that after being spayed, maybe he is just a little nervous! Good Luck!

| ok well mine bark at the cats...they go crazy when jack and charlie are trying to come inside after a hard days work of chasing critters. so ive tried the water bottle, treats, distraction......nothing has helped. i have the potty area set up in a room just outside my bedroom and i have a door on that room. so what i have done is started time outs. i have the gate set up and if they bark they go in time out. so right away ill take cedric n lola (keylo is only interested in kissing jack and charlie) and put them in time out the second they bark and or chase jack or charile. I wait about a minute or two for them to completely stop barking and whining. cedric is very good at letting me know hes not pleased with being in time out. this has worked amazing for me and the key is every single time.......eventually they understood why i was putting them in time out. now most of the time they ignore when jack and charlie come in. and i am also sure to tell them thank you for the strager alert - enough when they are barking at a car in the driveway or a stranger approaching the house. so far it is so much better and i have more control over the situation.

| Thank you, Teresiana ! I would try the technique I read on "Enough Barking" link. Hopefully it'll work for my little Alice!
