I wouldn't take it personally or think a breeder doesn't care if she/he doesn't respond. It must be hard to keep up with so many pups and families, plus maintain their own relationships with family and friends. I admire those who can keep up.

I think it must be emotionally hard to hear the ups and especially the downs of so many pups. It's hard for me to see my YT friends' dogs battling illness or passing.

I would hope that if a person needs advice or information that a breeder would be willing to communicate beyond the first year.

I love hearing from mine and get a lot of Christmas cards with pictures. I always like to see if I can recognize the dog or the person before I open them. A good deal of the time I can remember them. I have a whole album with 20 yrs. worth of yorkie pics. LOL

I was thinking the same thing.

If a breeder breeds a few times a year and has been breeding for many years, that's alot of pups to keep up on. If every new owner contacted frequently, it could be a little overwhelming.

ZoE's breeder said minimally, she likes pics & update at 6months, and then at each year birthday, thereafter. But, she also said to contact her if there are any health issues whatsoever. ZoE's been really healthy so I've not needed to call her to report any problems, so she's called me a few times to make sure everything is still going well, cos I've been a bit of a slacker with updates

Everyone is not alike. Some people who surrender a rescue, are desperate for news, others can't bear to keep in touch, others don't give a darn.
Same with breeders, some have only have a few pups a year and have the time and desire to chat and love letters, emails and photos. Others have been doing it for a very long time and really only need a yearly update, unless there is a problem. Some only are concerned with the here and now puppies and pour all their love and attention into them. Some are like a surrogate mother once they baby has the best forever home they can find, they let go and move on. Other just don't give a darn . Pick the reason you can live with. Just know you are the real mommy.

The breeder I got Trixie from still emails and texts me asking about Trixie and she 21 months old. I must say though I researched her comp,etely and visited her several times to see her dogs and kennels and so I knew she was an amazing person before I bought my Trixie

My breeder follows Galen on Facebook. She makes little comments. And she gets to see how he is doing and what he is up to.

My breeder gets on me if I dont send pics every now and then!!! LOL. I mean, maybe yours just has a lot going on right now. You never know what battles people are fighting every day. Im sure it still warms their heart to see their baby (now yours) being so well taken care of!!

It's funny you posted this thread I was just telling my husband a few weeks ago how I was a little irked I was that my breeder never emailed me asking how things were going. I kinda felt like she had no interest except for the money

I finally heard back from my breeder. She said; "Love the picture! He is adorable! Glad you are enjoying him." While I am embarrassed, I am glad I finally heard back from her.
