| After my dogs are totally housebroken they are allowed more access to the house. Of course they have to be past the chewing stage as well. I have always given them a little bit of space at a time by allowing them freedom in one room that I am sure they will be safe in and then gradually adding more rooms. Giving too much freedom all at once can cause confusion and problems. It is best just to give them a room or two that is close to the potty. Even my outdoor trained dogs were first given the kitchen to stay in while I was at work and then eventually as I saw they were trust worthy they were given more of the house as their space. |

| I let Blazer and Buddy roam our family room in our lower level. The carpet down there is already shot so if Blazer has an accident I'm not as bothered by it. If it is just Buddy alone he can roam the entire house as he pleases but Blazer isn't 100% trustworthy yet.

| Lola is my fifth small dog and the first one that is allowed free roam of the main level. I do try to remember to close my powder room door since she has been known to attack the toilet paper, but even that has been a long time. However I work from home so I normally am not out for more that about 5 hours at a time. If you have a chewer or a climber it is tuff, because if she wanted to, Lola could get up on end tables or chew up cords, but I am lucky she seems to have no interest, I don't even think if I spilled pills on the floor she would eat them, but those are all the things you need to think of before letting a dog have free access to the house. You best bet is to try it for short periods

| Brandi has free roam but it took a few years to get there. Like everyone else, it was done in steps. First the expen, then the bedroom and finally the whole house. Brandi is older so I don't have to worry about the puppy stuff. She is also potty pad trained. One thing that help me greatly when first allowing her more and more access was a webcam. You can see how they are doing with the new found freedom and adjust accordingly. I work from home several times a week but for those occasions when I needed to go into the office, the webcam was perfect. Because of the webcam, I now know that Brandi just sleeps and barks at things out the window. She's the perfect little angel when she is home alone. I only use the webcam now if Brandi is not feeling well. But for the most part, I don't use it that much anymore. |

| After they are house broken I give them more room to roam. I still shut the bed room doors though. So they have most of the house to roam. They always seem to stay in the living room or wait right by the door until I get home. |

| When they are completely house trained or will always go on the potty pads, and they don't chew things they shouldn't, then I'd say they can have most of the house. I'd close all bedroom doors though. Mine were around two years old before they got the house, and I still close off the bedroom doors.

| Jess will never have free roam of the house. My house has too many rooms, shes already broken her leg and I have younger kids who leave things everywhere. So shes in a big crate when I go out. She doesn't like it and has lately taken to pooing and walking through it but at least shes safe. She cant jump up on things anymore so I cant even leave her in a bedroom... |

| My Eva has free roam to one room.. it's actually a nice size bedroom & we turned it into her puppy playroom. I was SO nervous the first day going to work leaving her in there with all of the freedom but she does amazing.. The room is empty except for of her toys, 2 puppy beds, a puppy couch, food, water, kongs, and a radio playing. She seems to stay out of trouble |

| Yup, Jackson had free roam around 6 months old. We did it somewhat gradually (but still quickly). Started in crate, then expen, then bedroom, then whole house. But he just always proved to be reliable so I was never worried.
