| It depends how big she is, and probably her body structure. My girl is 8 pounds with a more muscular build and sturdy enough to jump on/off the bed, couch, etc without getting hurt.

| Blazer is 6 lbs, long and lean and there is no way I could stop him from jumping off of or on to the couch! So yes, I think it is normal behavior but as to whether or not the pup SHOULD do it is more based on size and health of the pup. My friend has a little guy- 4 lbs on a heavy day- and he likes to jump, too. My friend doesn't like him to and has stairs for him for the couch but they aren't always used.

| It's not great for there knees and that's how some Yorkies have broken legs. My sturdy 16 pounder jumped off the couch and was limping and the er vet and our regular vet could not figure out what was wrong with her so we had to go to a orthopedic specialist who had to sedate her to do X-rays and they found out she had over extended her font leg and gave her a brace like thing to strengthen her front legs.

I can't even imagine Jackson NOT easily leaping on/off furniture, it's just so second nature to him, lol. But he's 17lbs, athletic and a muscular build.

| Most couches are not that high. I don't think it would do any damage as long as your pup's knees are strong. I trained Gracie to play fetch inside. I throw the ball through the living room into the kitchen and she loves it. On days when the weather is bad and she needs some exercise playing fetch inside is a life saver! She needs to run off that excess energy! I guess I don't know how you play fetch on the couch. Maybe direct the ball in a different direction? When Gracie was about 7 months old she found she could jump up on the furniture. She didn't do it that much at first because she was still pretty small and it was an effort to get up there. Now she only jumps up on the couch if there is a lap there that she wants to occupy. |
