Blazer is 6 lbs, long and lean and there is no way I could stop him from jumping off of or on to the couch! So yes, I think it is normal behavior but as to whether or not the pup SHOULD do it is more based on size and health of the pup. My friend has a little guy- 4 lbs on a heavy day- and he likes to jump, too. My friend doesn't like him to and has stairs for him for the couch but they aren't always used.
