| Thundershirt for Milo Update Hi Everyone, Just wanted to say that the Thundershirt isn't working. We take him with us everywhere we possibly can & have only left him a couple of hours 4 or 5 times in the 5 weeks since we have had him. I tried all the tips suggested by the shirt's manufacturer & everyone else---even tried letting him stay on our enclosed deck so that he can see us (and we can see him) while we work in our backyard & he still gets panicky. He is such a great little dog & I love him so much that it just breaks my heart to see him that way. My husband says it looks as if we will have to have a dog sitter every time we are not within three feet of him . Help! Suggestions? Thanks everyone. DALady25 |

| I know it's hard not to want to talk to him or go back to him when he acts out but the worst thing you can do is nurture neurotic behavior. When you come or go, don't make an issue and don't say anything to him coming or going. Everything should be nonchalant. Wait till he's calm down to pet and talk to him, but not in an excited way.

| Thundershirt for Milo Update Hi Yorkiedaze & Spiritwings 1202, Your pets are adorable! Thanks for your suggestions, but I don't make any fuss when coming or going. I do tell him very quietly before I leave, that I will be back in a little bit---to be a good boy. Then when I return, I make no fuss over him either. I haven't tried the method of giving him a treat & then leaving for only 5 minutes several times a day, but I will try that. Thanks so much for both your replies. I really appreciate your time. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry the thunder shirt didn't help. I don't know if this is an option but getting him a friend? I am having a lot of fear issues with my 7 year old Pixie and it is not fun for her or me. I am going to try and not nurture her behavior like Yorkiedaze said. I hope you can find something that helps.

| The treat worked for me too. I used to put Ally in a kennel when I left (the one she slept in). I would come home and she would have it bounced across the floor and she was only 2 lbs at the most! I then put her in my puppy-proof family room with a puppy pad. She was excellent, but thought the puppy pad was a play toy! She didn't tear up anything else, but she cried when we left. She even knew the sound of the garage door opening. I then started giving a treat when I left and she (and Tia) now expects it. Both girls will drop the treat and look at me though....they know I'm leaving. I never left Ally in the beginning. I think it was more me than her! We both learned to cope! |

| Have you tried Rescue Remedy for Pets? It is a non prescription all natural tonic like preparation that calms most pets. It is also made in a different form for humans. My daughter has used it on her very neurotic cat and has had great results. You can put a few drops directly in the mouth or in their water. If his anxiety is because he is young and nervous you may be able to taper him off it after a while. Once is has settled down he may be just fine. My daughter got it from Amazon but I know that many pet supply places sell it. It's worth a try. Since it is all natural it is not habit forming in any way. They don't really get sleepy, they just relax. My other daughter used it on 3 of her cats when she went on a 2 day car trip as she was relocating. She said they never made a peep even through they hate car travel. Yes, it is for dogs also. |
