The treat worked for me too. I used to put Ally in a kennel when I left (the one she slept in). I would come home and she would have it bounced across the floor and she was only 2 lbs at the most! I then put her in my puppy-proof family room with a puppy pad. She was excellent, but thought the puppy pad was a play toy! She didn't tear up anything else, but she cried when we left. She even knew the sound of the garage door opening. I then started giving a treat when I left and she (and Tia) now expects it. Both girls will drop the treat and look at me though....they know I'm leaving. I never left Ally in the beginning. I think it was more me than her! We both learned to cope! |
