| Worried About Fleas Whenever I bath my Miki I find a flea on her. This is shocking being that she doesn't even go outside. The neighbors under me has a small poodle that's out all the time. I see the poodle scratching a lot. My previous yorkie name Mya ended up with fleas, too. The fleas gave Mya a bad allergic reaction. A friend of the family is now taking care of Mya and it had been around three months later when I got Miki. I am trying to figure out if the fleas are coming from the poodle. Mya didn't go out much and I gave monthly flea treatments to Mya and is giving monthly treatments to Miki as well. I'm confused. |

| If you are giving monthly flea treatments you could still see a flea it is when they bite the dog they die. If you are seeing lots of fleas though it may be your flea preventative isnt working and you need to switch

| If you're seeing one that means that there are Plenty of them around Don't let them take up residence on your dog and in your house You need a monthly anti-flea medication and keep a flea powder around in case ther is an outbreak to sprinkle on your dog and their bedding

| Also, I'd talk to the downstairs neighbor to let them know they might have a flea infestation, because the fleas might be coming up from downstairs on a continual basis. If it's an apartment, this could be a hazard for humans and pets living in the complex, and it should be remedied ASAP. If that's the case, you might want to involve the apartment manager... |

YT 1000 Club Member | Your post implies that you live in an Apartment. They are notorious about sharing problems like that. I hate to recommend a dedicated Insecticide in any case, but you might try it just in the areas that are most prone to allow a contamination. Those being at any door which leads out to a common passage. Any pipes which come up through the floor, or wall. Like under your kitchen/bathroom sinks, and any Natural Gas outlets you may have. Addressing these select areas should help, but, you can always have a complete decontamination done on your residence.

| I would also like to point out that if there are any fleas in your area, you can bring in flea eggs on your shoes...those hatch..then you have fleas. I found this out from my vet years ago because my ferrets kept getting nasty flea infestations. He said that the eggs were probably coming in on my shoes. You see, my landlords had cats that stayed outside and they were likely the "hosts" but as I walked from my car and up the path to my house, those eggs were likely sticking to my shoes.

| I never see more than one flea on her after I bath her. And it's only just after I've bathed and combed her with the flea comb. I check for more fleas on her and there's none in the comb. But she still scratches throughout the day. Not excessively scratching. Silly me, I thought the fleas will die if doesn't have host to live on... me thinking the fleas wouldn't even touch her at all. I didn't have to worry about any fleas until just a month before Mya left. I'm learning. |

This is exactly what I was thinking might be the problem. So I tell everyone that walks inside to take their shoes off at the door. Not that it would rid the fleas but Miki does not go into the living room area that much. | |

| I'm not sure if you were responding to my post with this or not. I just wanted to clarify my own sentence because I didn't mean the cats were the host to the eggs. It kind of reads that way though lol. I meant we had fleas in the area/yard because the outside cats were hosting them...then, therefore, the eggs were dropped around the yard/path.
