| The following link is an ad that I have seen near my home town. I know nothing personally about them. However, from looking at their website, it appears that this family follows the important breeding "rules". They do not allow buyers to have breeding rights. They only sell yorkies. It appears that their yorkies are well cared for. Home Last edited by barneysmommmy; 04-22-2013 at 12:46 PM. Reason: ulr link |

Also one of the puppies listed is said to be X-small. And I guess the last thing is well, let me as the breeders on here...Do you think that the decorations and declarations are overkill? | |

| I enjoyed looking at the website. Very cute pups but seems like the owners are stating that their yorkie at one year is 2 or3 lbs. On the very small side to me. Boy, it's difficult to find the right breeder.

| To find a reputable breeder, you can look at YTCA.org (but their site might still be down for mainenance). I can recommend several. In TX, there is Judy from Rosehill Yorkies (her screen name is yorkiemom1 here so you can PM her). Also, Deb of Amazing Yorkies is great! Her screen name here is Amazing Yorkies. There is a reputable show breeder in Atlanta, Ga and they go by TyAva. You can google them (they are actually in Marietta, GA). Hope that helps. There are more (maybe some closer to you), but these are the ones I've grown to love from research and will look into these when I buy my next Yorkie (contrary to my hubby's wishes, yes, I said I am getting another Yorkie one day lol)

| to the OP Even though you are open in the area of your search, your best bet is to at least start closest to home. I was on the Yorkie Club of America's site the other day and while it is being reworked you can still access the local breed clubs that are members of their organization. Most have contact names listed, so start calling or emailing those closest to you, because in spite of how easy it is to shop for a puppy via the internet nothing beats going and playing with it in person. The breeders on that site are mostly show breeders or retired show breeder. Buying from a show breeder for the first time can often rattle a newbie yorkie purchaser, but don't let that scare you just be forewarned. Most show breeders take their time in deciding if they will be selling a puppy or holding it back to show, so don't be surprised if you hear they may or may not have a puppy to sell in a month or two, or that they have a puppy that is 4 months or older that they are just now going to sell. These puppies are very well bred, most are health tested and so forth so they understandably cost more than what you will run across in the newspaper, Craig's list etc. The club breeders are very well connected in the yorkie world so as you talk with them you will learn things and often if they do not have puppies available they will tell you who does, so they are a great source of information. Good luck in your search I know it can be daunting.

To the OP, I always recommend someone check with a breeder on the YTCA website, the YTCA is the mother club for Yorkies and their breeders are dedicated to preserving and improving the breed. You still have to know what qualities to look for to be sure the breeder isn't just in it for the money, but it's a good place to start and many states have YTCA breeders so you can go to the home personally and investigate the conditions of the breeding dogs. Right now their referral website is down, but you can check back in a few days or contact them here. The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America
