| Help...I need sleep :( Roxi is 2 1/2 yrs old. She has always been scared of thunder...paces, shakes and pants. One Saturday night, we had a thunderstorm come through and I was up with her for a couple of hours. The next night she was sleeping through the night again like usual. However, that has been the last night she has slept all night through. Since that time, between 2:30 and 4:30 every night, she comes into my room all upset...shaking and pacing. This has been going on for two weeks. She stares at the living room and hides behind me. Sometimes she'll just stand and bark at the door. I've gone out and checked and there is nothing out there. Honestly, she's starting to freak me out. I'm beginning to wonder if our house is haunted. Has anyone else had this happen with their Yorkie? Could she all of sudden become scared of the dark?

| She is probably having residual anxiety from the storms if it is happening at the same time as the storm did. You might try a thundershirt or some sort of calming spray (they have these, but not sure where). If it continues, I would speak to my vet about some sort of anti anxiety med. Also, just because you don't see anything or hear anything doesn't mean there isn't something making noise (maybe a mouse in a wall or some critter in the yard...dogs have a very keen sense of hearing - especially at night). I tend to think it is the anxiety with this case though because it is happening at the same time every night.

| Thanks, Terri. I do have a Thundershirt for her, but I was worried she would get too hot with it on. Tonight would be a good night to try it out though (we've been having freezing rain all day today). We avoid medication because Roxi has liver disease. Wish me luck.

| Bless her heart! Good luck! I hope it works. I don't know what you will do if this doesn't clear up before summer kicks in

| I used to have a dog that was horribly afraid of thunder and things like firecrackers. He was fine when there was no loud noises through. Are you sure there is not something new going on outside at night? A new neighbor making noise or something? She could be hearing something but is still nervous because of the storm. If this does not let up you may want to try some Rescue Remedy. It is an all natural liquid that they make for pets. There are also a couple of forms of it for kids and adults as well. My daughter used it on her ultra nervous cat when she was going on a two day drive to her new location. She said she used it on all 3 cats and even the really nervous one just laid there very relaxed throughout the trip. Let me tell you that is a testimony! Her cat used to throw up and howl all the time it was in the car. You can put the drops in their water or directly into the mouth. Maybe if you try that for a couple of nights she may be able to get back to her regular sleep habits. I know how hard it is to comfort a dog that is scared. Next to impossible to convince them all is OK. |

| Callie broke her tooth when she was in her crate one night and even after it got fixed it caused so much trauma that she would have terrible anxiety and would pant all night long hours and hours. We tried the thundershirt, a spray, dog calming music everything and nothing worked and we had to sleep in the living room. I finally went to the vet to have them check her out and then explained everything to the vet. Vet checked her out well and said she looked good and told me about a medicine that is used for separation anxiety and we decided to try it and she now sleeps all night sometimes until 10:30am

| Tucker, 6 months old, will bark when he hears other animals walk around outside, we have deer , coyotes, coons etc. They walk by the door and he goes into a fit and then runs and jumps in my lap! He sleeps with us..so I just put his burrow pillow there and he crawls inside and cannot hear them anymore! They are so brave and so scared! lol

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I know how you feel. Pixie became terrified of thunder and now rain. Even if there is rain an hour away she starts shaking and panting. I have had good results with the thunder shirt and some calming medicine from the vet but lately nothing is working. She even panic now when she hears the beeping for a weather alert on TV. So it's possible she is still scared from the previous storm. We have been having rain since 4 this morning except for a short break and she is frantic. I am going to ask the vet for something stronger as I am afraid she is going to have a heart attack. I hope you can figure out what is causing her distress.

| Well, I tried the Thundershirt on Roxi last night, but ended up taking it off. Roxi is only 3 lbs and even though I bought the smallest Thundershirt they had, it's still a little too big around the neck area. She looked so uncomfortable but she did fall asleep right away. My mom had suggested leaving a light on at night, so I left a small lamp on. And guess what...she got up 2 times but came back to bed with no anxiety at all. I'm going to try it for a couple more nights to see if it continues to help and then I will go out and get a night light for her. Keep your fingers cross for us. Thanks for all the suggestions

| Another thing to watch for is that some dogs lose their night vision kind of early on. It could be if she is having trouble seeing at night that she gets upset about it. I'm glad the light helped. |
