| ![]() My poor Gizmo had an endoscopy and colonoscopy last week because we could not figure out what was causing his chronic pancreatitis and colitis. We found out that he has inflammation in his stomach, intestines and colon as well as a bacteria infection (hellicobacter) and also possibly a food allergy. Hes taking amoxicillian 50 mg twice a day, flagyl 25 mg twice a day and budesondine 1mg per day as well as Pepcid 2.5 mg twice a day. Has anyone else had success in keeping their dogs IBD under control? What medications did you give your dog and for how long? What diet seemed to help keep their IBD under control? Gizmo is still not acting like himself 100% and the vet said it could take some time. I hate giving him all of these medications since hes only 3lbs Thank you everyone! |

| ![]() Poor little guy. I'm sorry he is having to go through this. Food allergies can cause some real problems if not corrected. It will take time for the inflammation to go away. Did they talk about trying to find what the allergy is? Did they suggest a diet for you? Have you tried switching his foods already? Until you pinpoint the allergy he could continue to have problems. A limited ingredient diet for dogs with sensitivities may help him. |

| ![]() Hope they find out what is causing it real soon. He is way to small to have to go through all the tests. Good luck and prayers for you and him. |

| ![]() I'm so sorry to hear about Gizmo. Hopefully you will learn good ways to manage this and he can live a comfortable, full life when the last of his current bout has cleared up. When Tibbe had his GI issues in June, they started him on something called ?Fortiflora? or something like that. It was a probiotic and I poured it over & mixed it in with his food. It spiked his appetite when he tasted it and I feel it really helped him turn the corner. He's still on the prescription food as anything other than that he gets a bite of can send him into a day of gas, loud tummy sounds and just lying about. He grazes outside and eats things from the grass B4 I can stop him and for sure the next a.m., he's gassy, etc. I'll sure be praying for Gizmo.

| ![]() Chibi has that, it was caused by food allergies. I had to get a food allergy panel done and find a food without anything he was allergic to in it(very challenging). After the initial sikness was done I kept him on probiotics mixed in his food and he has done really well. It just sucks when someone drops food or he finds food out on his walks he gets sick all over again. It's helpful to keep some meds on hand for incidents like that. I also found one herbal remidy that cures his upset tummy every time, herbs are good because they arnt harsh on thier stomach and you can keep a stock pile that wont expire quickly. Hope your pup gets better!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() Sorry to hear that. My Cali has IB. She was diagnosed at the same time as her MVD. She has flare ups and I give her Flagyl. She has had 3 bouts in the past 3 weeks of bloody stools. I took a sample in yesterday and they told me to give her the Flagyl for 7 days and that we should start her on a probiotic. Any change in her diet will usually cause a flare up. So I try and keep her on the same food and treats. I tried a new one Friday and Saturday she had the diahhrea again. She had a bad flare up a few weeks ago. She was on an antibiotic for an ear infection and we had to stay in a hotel due to new floors being stained. So the combination really set her off. She can go a long time with out a flare up as long as I keep her diet the same. I feed her California Natural and Zukes salmon treats any variation can cause a flare up. Hopefully Gizmo will feel better soon.

| ![]() Yes, my yorkie has IBD (causing major food intolerance), SIBO, a mild liver problem, acute bouts of pancreatits, and (although she may be over it by now) soe type of esophagitis. Then she has true food allergies (extreme itching) and chronic yeasty ears related to that. Metronidazole worked - for a couple weeks. Tylan did nothing. Science Diet Z/D did not work for her. It was on and off with homecooked foods. The supplement seemed to irritate her though. She also couldn't keep weight on. Digestive enzymes (the real porcine pancreas type, not plant based' seemed to have some positive effect. I had to put the powder in capsules though or it would irritate her esophagus and she would spit up. She has been on Purina HA for 1 1/2 years and has done very well. No pancreatitis. Not gray, liquid poop. No major flare ups. This was after me thinking we could lose her if she continued the way she was. It isn't perfect. She has mild itchies (treated with steroids as needed), some stool consistency issues (sweet potato is added when there is a problem), and yeasty ears (treated with zymox as needed). However, I am very happy with where we are at. She does not take any drugs for these issues regularly. If she gets into something she shouldn't, I make a decision on whether to induce vomiting. That is sometimes followed by Reglan. It is a matter of trial and error and it is a long, miserable process. It is never a bad idea to talkto a veterinary nutritionist in cases like this. Not all vets offer food allergy testing because it is onsidered unreliable.

| ![]() You may want to consider switching to as natural a diet as possible and go raw. with your dog taking antibiotics I also recommend you get a probiotic and give a scoop a day, Genestra pre/probiotic is great. The antibiotic kill any infection but also are incredibly hard on the intestines which is where the problem is. kibble makes your dogs organs work harder than it has to and with inflamed intestines and pancreatitis and colitis a raw diet, a good probiotic and a digestive enzyme will help your dog heal and get back to normal |

| ![]() Your poor pup... I hope you get this under control soon. I don't know much about IBD, but I know it's not fun. I will be thinking of little Gizmo.

Princess had colitis. She's on a high fiber, low fat diet. She gets The Honest Kitchen for breakfast & Canine Caviar (grain free highest digestibility kibble on the market) for dinner & THK again b4 bedtime as a snack. I also tried numerous probiotics (expensive too!), but the only one that didn't upset her tummy (cause soft poopies) was Benebac. She's doing great & is back on her ideal weight (she had lost half a pound).
