I agree with you on the tails being docked but the dew claws for sure should be removed otherwise there is a chance that they can rip off at an older age and it is very painful for the dogs - I know, I had a dog with one remaining dew claw and he used to get it caught in his blanket, on the couch, etc. I lol'd when I saw what you posted about her name.

You will find many views on the tail docking and dew claw removal, here in the UK it's illegal. They can't run or turn so fast without the dew claw, from the reading that was posted here, by some one studying the reason for a dew claw. The article is probably still on the board. My dogs ( not Yorkshire Terriers) have always had their dew claws and never had a problem. | |

| My little one goes hiking with my big dog and still has energy leftover. These guys have no problem keeping up with the big ones. We can take about 3 mile hikes. But, like with any dog training for the distance. Start slow and build up your distance. You'll be amazed at what these little ones can do. |

| We have old Native American trails all around where I live. Gracie loves to go hiking. I'm sure she could go much further than I am able to go now. We do start out going fairly short distances in the spring and work our way up to the further distances. When she wants a break we either stop and rest or I just pick her up and carry her for a while. That usually happens when the summer heat has set in. Sometimes I wish I could hitch a ride home myself. |

| It's been my experience that most of mine go into heat at 9 1/2 months, so I doubt she's pregnant. I knew she looked young, she's just starting to blue. I would spay soon, but wait until you see if she needs any retained baby teeth that need to be removed too. Usually around 6 months old. That way she only needs to have anesthesia once. One other thing, did you return to where she was found to see if there were flyers up? I would think that was her neighborhood. A Yorkie that young was probably not dumped, but escaped. |

| I haven't read the entire thread. However, I do hope you tried to find this babys owner. She is a young pup and could have easily got lost. Even in the shape she was in, the owner could be sick and upset over losing her. It doesn't take long for a pup to go downhill. I'm glad you are taking care of her. But please do try to find her owner. I would be devastated if one of my babies got lost and the person who found them didn't return them.
