| New to Yorkie talk Hello everyone! I finally have a Yorkie and he is adorable!I'm in love< I've always had Chihuahuas still do,since I was 14 years old loved yorkies, but to me (at the time)they all looked the same BOY WAS I SOOO WRONG!I could pick my little buddy out of 50 Yorkie's!He is perfect! I've groomed many yorkies, poodles huge Schnauzer and I have to say my little buddy is awesome at 8 months .I place my palm under his belly and he will stand still and ready loves grooms even prances when done.He knows he gets a big treat afterwards <3 My little guy is 2 pounds 6 oz and I wonder how big he will get as I've read allot of yorkies hitting growth spurts at different sizes. He has been this size now since December. His mom was 4 and a half his father was 2 and a half. His grandmother was 5 pounds his grandfather is 3 ,Also wondering how everyone feels about top knots and too cut his bangs or not too....He will not wear a proper top knot only one little baby band and a clip all day.He dose not try to pull it out our anything as long as it is only one with a small clip or bow.He has his hair as long as we can get it right now with him being only 8 months :P.He has the silky coat so does that make him a silky terrier? Someone one told me the silky terrier was the original yorkie which was in the 15 pounds size until the current day sizes are they all the same now a days?I want to say yes but, sizes and hair varies between the two? ok cute pictures of little Pippin snuggles <3 http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...ppin/019-1.jpghttp://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e.../pippin/39.jpghttp://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...pippin/102.jpghttp://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...pippin/012.jpg |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | He is just ADORABLE!!! What a handsome / cute little fella. As for topknots...I have a topknot in Marcel and it works really well. Wylie doesn't 'do' topknots ...it messes with his mojo or something. And Pfeiffer, our girl...sigh...she has long hair in front and I try and I try and I try with topknots, but apparently she thinks they are toys I put up there, for her to get out of her hair and then toss around the room. Le sigh. WELCOME to YT !

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Ah Pippen is so adorable, what a precious face. You're lucky he has a silky coat, while I love the looks of the cotton coat, it's so much harder to care for and you do get tangles and mats. Regarding your question about Silky's many people get confused, but the Silky breed is a seperate breed from a Yorkie, I wished they'd picked a different name because they look so much like a bigger yorkie that some people think they are a yorkie. | Someone one told me the silky terrier was the original yorkie The original Yorkshire terrier was a much larger dog than what is currently recognized as the "breed standard" of around seven pounds. The Silky is actually a mix of Australian Terrier (which, in and of itself, was probably a mix of Cairn terrier and something else), and "pure" Yorkshire terrier. Of course, they all probably have the same heritage if you were to follow them back to their origins. Many people have remarked that our Graysee looks much more like a Silky than a Yorkie, due to her size, shape of head, length of snout, "silkiness" of her hair, etc. It really doesn't matter to us, as we love her, and never intended to breed and/or show her. And she REFUSES to keep a topknot; she will grind her head into the floor attempting to lose the rubber band or bow. We just gave up on that idea! |

| tIt is confusing I know but heres my explanation. A silky terrier is a separate breed that resembles a yorkie but is usually a little bigger than a yorkie. A yorkie can have 3 different kinds of coat texture: silky, cotton coated and modifieed which is a mixture of the 2. So a yorkie can have a silky coat and it is the prefered coat according to the yorkie standard. I hope that helps you

Welcome to YT. Pippin is such a cutie. My little man is too young for any top knot yet. I have no idea his coat type, his head seems to be on the silky side but his body appears to be on the cotton side. He'll be 14 weeks tomorrow. Still trying to get him used to being groomed. It does not seem like he hates it, just that he thinks it's a game so he like to try to chew on me or the brush. Since obviously you have lots of experience, any tips on getting a puppy used to grooming and being settled would be appreciated by me as well as some other newbies around here, I'm sure. As for size since this is my first yorkie I don't know how accurate yorkie growth charts are, or the rule that I have heard is double their 12 week weight and that is pretty close to adult weight. Guess I can better say this November how good either of those are for judging size. Again welcome, you will love it here.

| Welcome to YT. Most of what I would have said has already been posted. Your baby is so adorable ! We love pictures of new babies. Please share more. I just have a soft spot in my heart for toy dogs. I love Chihuahuas too. I have two sisters one has Chihuahuas and Yorkies. The other sister has tiny little Poodles and a little 5 pound mixed baby (a rescue) we are not sure what she is, maybe Yorkie and Maltese. I am glad for YT, it is so fun to see puppies grow up and get to know new people.

| Does keeping the hair cut short around their eyes cuts down on allot of tearing? You know how they get the little tear globs under their eyes.I have to clean Pippin up daily since he goes everywhere I go :P. He is so good about it though loves brushing and grooming. He cant wait to get his treats! He will do anything for treats. |

As far as the cutting his top knot,I'm worried if I cut it he wont like it and will have to wait for it to grow out :/ and since he wears one band to one clip he does fine. Actually prefers it up out off his face as long as it is not heavy at all it must be very light for him to agree with it hehe. | |
