| Vet questions So I'm hoping that someone can help me here , Belle's follow up was on Friday the 1st and she was due for her second sets of shots. Well as normal the Veterinarian and his assistant did a well check up And inform us she seems to be healthy and that she weighs 2.1lbs ( she's 12 weeks might I add). They went ahead and gave her the second sets of shots and inform me that she's has to come back in a month for her last sets and her rabies shot. He did inform me that after her shot she will be laid back and sleepy. So here is where I'm concern it is now Saturday and Belle seems to whine everytime I touch her or go to pick her up. At one point I went to place my hand on her to pet her and I had yet to touch her and she was whimping as if someone was hurting her. This has been happening since she received her second set of shots. She is eating and drinking and if I open her playpen she does come out its seems to be more of the interaction part. Is this normal? I'm contemplating on even allowing the Vet give her the Rabies shot until a month after her last set of shots because of how she's behaving. Any suggestions or Advice on this situation is greatly appreciated.. |

| My Ruby is 3.5 lbs and my vet will only give her one shot per visit because she is worried more than one would be too hard on Ruby's system.

| Any time your dog's behavior changes, especially whining or indicating pain, call the vet. It could just be soreness from the shots but this much reaction is not normal. I personally would take her into the ER vet if I couldn't reach my regular vet but that is just me. They could check her and give her a pain shot or something perhaps to help. I can't stand to see a dog suffer, though hopefully if she is still eating/drinking, she's not in too much pain. But definitely let a vet know what is going on with her in case this might be some nerve type reaction around the site of the injection. Be sure her gums are pink and not tacky and they rebound pink after touching within 1 - 2 seconds. If it takes longer, there is a problem. Here is a YT Library Forum link for Emergency information. The first Sticky thread - What's Normal Temp, Resp Rate, Pulse, Gums, tells you about normal vitals and how to read your dog's vitals and there is other Emergency Care information there. Note the one about the 13 symptoms that require immediately veterinary attention a few Sticky thread down on the list. EMERGENCY Help Library - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community Wish I could be more help.

| I agree with Jeanie about contacting your vet about your little's girl's continued pain reaction. Also, I agree with everyone to separate the vaccinations. Wait 3 - 4 weeks between rabies and other shots. I hope your little girl feels better soon.

| I am so sorry your baby is feeling bad. Personally, I am getting paranoid about even going to the vet. I lost mine whom I really trusted and now I'm scared to take them for dentals, shots, everything. These babies are so tiny and It just scares the heck out of me.Praying that baby will be okay and feeling better soon. |

| Welcome to Yorkie talk. Pain should be checked out. She may just be sore. It is really important to choose a Vet that is familiar with small toy dogs (even Yorkies in piticular) Because Yorkies have a lower weight and body mass, my vet only gives one shot at a time. We look forward to learning all about you and your new baby.

| Being sore at the sight of the injection is common and with her being so tiny, that could be why she seems sore all over. I'd say give your vet a call and let them know and ask for their recommendation. I agree with others to space the vaccinations out 3 to 4 weeks. I took Riley in on a Saturday morning for a set vaccinations. It was only one shot but it was one of the combo vaccines. He didn't start having a reaction until about 9 - 10 hours later... broke out into big red hives and was all swollen... so we ended up in the emergency vet that night. I called his regular vet when they opened that Monday to let them know and his Vet Recommended to make an appointment for vaccinations at the beginning of the week first thing in the morning. That way if he has a reaction I can take them back into their office. He also said his next visit we will just do "Titers" which are tests that can tell you whether or not your pup needs the booster. TITER TEST After Riley's reaction as far as I am concerned he will get his Rabies and that is it. It was very scarey and I Hated seeing him so uncomfortable. | My vet refused to give Gracie all her shots at once. I was more than happy to make return visits. The techs did her shots except for the rabies that has to be given by a vet. Little dogs like a Yorkie should not be treated like a big puppy. They are having to absorb the same amount of vaccine as a much larger dog and it is hard on their little bodies. Some small pups have died form the reaction they have to those vaccinations. Don't risk being the one whose puppy has a fatal reaction. |

| My vet gives one shot every three weeks, Chip has done great, last one in two weeks. I don't mind return visits also, it seems to be better for the pups. |

| Like others have said please discuss this with your Vet, they need to know when your baby is reacting to a shot(s). Sophie Kate gets her shots still over a series of days and not all at once due to her being sore after her first year shots (not puppy shots they were given in a series of weeks).

| I will never let the vet give Milo more than one shot at a time. He had his yearly check up and they gave him his shots and he had a reaction to them. He was shaking, would not let me touch him. If he got up he didn't won't to lay back down. He would get in his bed and stand and try to lay his head down but he didn't won't to lay all the way down. He was really sore where they gave him his shots. The vet said to give him baby aspirin and benerdryl. I was really worried but he finally got back to normal after a few days.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Our vet is the same. One shot at a time has worked good for us so far, no problems at all.

| Thanks everybody for all the responses. I want to give you guys an update this morning she woke up with more energy she actually is playing more and coming towards me to be pet which is her usual self. I do think she is a little sore from the shot because when I went to move her collar she whine just a bit . She's interacting with my girls (I have two little girls) and barking at them for attention which is what she does normally. I agree with most of you I will let him give her the last sets of shots and then holding off on the Rabies and reschedule it for 2 to 3 weeks later. I'm also going to be looking for another Vet I am not at ease with them and I like to feel at ease with whom ever is going to be taking care of my loved ones. |
