He eats Royal Canin mini starter formula. I feed him 1/4 cup twice a day I cant free feed cause I would find my youngest skin baby trying to eat it I am sure!!! I already caught him trying to play in the dog water while I was getting laundry out!!! LOL

Yes, i had a little one who found dog food a tasty snack...

Pooky is 15 weeks today, weighs 39 oz and just finished his first raw meal; loves it!!!

Congrats! He sure did take raw quickly. What are you feeding him?

You feed them between 2-4% of their body weight divide for 3 meals day. It's his introduction day so today he's eating part of a chicken leg with bone. Suppose to be 80% meat 10 % bone 10% organs.(5% liver 5%other organs). There's not an exact science to it but this works. I'm going to make him frozen cubes with seasonal raw fruit & veggies, raw egg, & natural unsweented yogurt and probaby a sardine....But 1st we'll start with the chicken. So far no loose stools so it didn't upset his system. :). It's about a TBS a day!

His first meal should not be with bone... That really should come a little later because of his gum muscle and teeth.

Our little Dakota was born Nov. 23rd. He weighed 2 pounds 8.75 ounces at 12 weeks. Our Bella was born Oct. 28th. and she weighed 3 pounds 1 Oz. at hoer 15 . week appointment

Yeah I was wondering about that, puppies don't have the teeth to really chew up those bones as well, and of course, if they aren't eating the bone, don't they need a calcium supplement? I have heard of puppies getting intestinal bleeding from bone shards, and while I think this type of food has many benefits, you really have to know what you're doing, reading a couple sites isn't enough, and you need to be aware that most sites are written for large breeds. It seems like the premade raw that is ground up might be a safer alternative, until you could really read up on it.

ADULT raw fed dogs require approx 2 to 4% of their body weight a day (depending on activity levels, health, etc) to Maintain...

You are going to starve your puppy and not give him a chance to grow and thrive if you are only feeding him 2-4% of his current weight! Growing puppies need up to 10% of their body weight when raw fed in order to grow healthy and strong. Also, be careful of which bones you give at this young age. Personally, I would stick with the small bones of chicken only.

MaryKay I absolutely overlooked that! YES!! 10% is a must!!

Please, please do more research and consult with a nutritionist before you continue. If there are no nutritionist in your area, there are many online that will gladly help you and work on menu with you. :)

Ideally, it should be something smaller than a chicken. Like quail. But if they don't have anything like that then the wing tip and forearm, not the whole wing (the upper arm/big thick part that connects to the body) is too thick for a puppy of Pooky's size.

Do you have any quail or quail sized chicken you can get a hold of?

Most stores have rock cornish hens, how about that?

Glad you said that, I was referring to the chickens' smaller bone parts , but see where it could be mis construed as chicken bones only :-) . I hope the op does more research on feeding her puppy enough food to grow on!
